Just chips, fish and peas. None of all this modern rubbish all cooked in the same fat/oil, think that's why they don't taste the same these days.

Re: fish and chip shop
I wouldn't have liked to have travelled too far carrying chips, peas and mushy peas wrapped only in newspaper, in pre carton/ tray days.

Re: fish and chip shop
I remember chips wrapped in news paper and they did smell different.
And i tell you what you would get more chips when they popped them in paper now you barely get the carton covered.
And if you want pie and chips you only get less than half a portion of chips but still pay the price for the full portion.
Bye Eck prices these day eh i tell ya!!

They used to put the peas in cartons with a lid, no problem

Re: fish and chip shop
If anyone feels so passionate about chips in newspaper, they could always wrap 'em up in the Express, or whatever, when they get them home.

I always ask for the pie wrapped up seperately so you get your full portion of chips.

And in pre-carton days as l stated, how were peas sold?
The funniest story ever although he has always denied it, was when Peter 'Mandy' Mandelson first became MP for Hartlepool. On showing he was a man of the people he went into the chippy and ordered fish and chips and a portion of that delicious looking guacamole, which he was told was mushy peas!!
You can take the man out of Hamstead but you can't make him eat mushy peas.

I recall that you would take your own bowl or deep plate to the local chippy and your fish, ships and peas were bunged on; it was then wrapped in newspaper and taken home. No trays, just washing up. Oh, and you used the paper to set the fire the following morning.
