There was one last Saturday in one of the stores at my local mall , a few of the local choirs got together to set it up , (community/civic activism) didn't cost a penny .
Shaz, I respect your opinion, but I don't agree with your viewpoint.
This activity might have taken some young people off the street corners for a very short while.......and because I think I read somewhwere that the young folk were from The Accross College, I rather think they would not be the ones who hung about on street corners.
The value of this activity is transitory....it has no lasting effect........and I think the money could have been used to better purpose.
And it loked on the clip like everyone had 'just joined in' rather than some of the youngsters having been taught the routine.......not imppressive at all.
I got to do 'Country Dancing' when I was growing up, but not on Broadway.
I'm not moaning, just commenting with my own opinion.
i think shaz point was stop knocking the tryers, and embrace the effort, maybe if they had more volunteers like you who could help and make this sort off thing better, and then sustain it through volunteers,, rather than pulling apart the performance through your opinion?

Er...it wasn't put on by 'volunteers'.
It was organised by someone paid £20,000.00 to promote these 'community art' events.
On top of which the actual costs for this flash mob was £1,160.00.
'Volunteers' do things for free, gratis.
Which unfortunately this 'art happening' wasn't, as it was partly funded by the tax payers of Hyndburn.

i didnt say it was, i suggested how it could be sustained and be improved by people who sit and criticise, the tryers!! oh was it on a satday?? most working people rest on these days, 20k is not a great wage inc- having to work wkends!! oh and dance routines are the fashion, last 2/3 britains got talent shows were won by dance performers, the first one was from warrington and did, im dancing in the rain, good job young kids like old tastes, as some mature people dont like our modern day syles or choices off music :-)

I understood exactly the point Shaz was trying to make.
I respect her point of view even though it is different to mine.
My point was that it didn't enhance the overall opinion of Accrington as a place, and therefore it didn't actually do anything helpful to promote the town. Maybe promoting the town wasn't what it was about....I just thought it was silly stuff, lightweight and of little value.
Are we all supposed to say 'ooh, aah, isn't it grand'(a bit like the emperors new clothes) or can we be allowed to say what we really think?
Well, in common parlance 'whatever'....I did anyway.

Congratulations, Neil, on a splendid piece of sanctimonious drivel. I assume your replied as such because you felt unable to delete my post but nevertheless it would have been a good idea before you did reply to check out your facts.
I do not attack Gayle on everything she does; in fact, it is just the opposite - I quite admire the way she has to raise and allocate a very small amount of financial recourses for arts in Hyndburn. You can take it from me that my silence on most of her projects means only approval.
However, in the instance of the Flash mob and the Vicky swimming gala, this appears both to myself and to most other commentators on here to be an absolute waste of public money - more so in the current economic climate.
Anyway, just to show you how nice I am - here's a smiley for you. And there's one for Gayle, as well.
if at first you dont succeed try and try again, im sure gayle will mlisten to constructive views??? maybe next time she should write to every voter in accy and have ten suggestions on a list of ideas.... what would happen then?? the half empty brigade would be up in arms COMPLAINING about the cost of stamps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, sometimes with some folk you just or never will WIN
