Football is changing.

Everyone is awere of the violence that is part of the supporters scene of a lot of clubs especially over the last few years. Now there may be hope as a preist who had been for a chinese takeaway in Glasgow who on his return was attacked dived into a pub. There may not be many who find it odd that he was sheltered and protected until you realise it is a Rangers pub. The sectarianism that is rife in Northern Ireland is also bad in Glasgow as anyone who has lived there will tell you, yet a bunch of these fans helped a person who is a "assosiate" of the enemy Celtic. If this can happen in Glasgow then maybe the minorities will loose and going to a game will not mean taking a bleaching off the rival support. He was even escorted to his car which has instilled some belief in human nature back in me.

Wonder if Blackburn + Burnley Man U +Man City Milwall +Swansea and all other aggro causing fans can learn from this? Maybe then we will get our beautiful game back so here's hoping.

Re: Football is changing.

i dont think theres more violence in football now than there ever was in my time, the big differance to me is the violence is much more severe, it seems to have gone from a bit of a punch up in the late 50s/60s to hit em with anything and worse, at the risk of coming repetitive to me the answer lies in respect and sentencing. this is something that has definatly changed, and not for the better.

Re: Football is changing.

My answer, when I was asked which of the Old Firm teams I supported when I lived in Glasgow, always elicited the reply 'Queen of the South', delivered in my best English accent, and it always raised a titter.

Football has changed since my childhood in the 70's, and having witnesed the worst excesses of the skinhead/right wing organised hooliganism first hand, and I'm glad.

It is more family friendly now, but there is still an undercover coterie intent on gloryifying violence. I recently watched a dvd produced by football hooligans which was sickening in it's professionalism, and organised secret filming of fights.
