For a bet....?

I have just finished reading the book by Tony Hawks about his travels around Ireland with a fridge........something he did for a bet of £100.
It made me think.......I wonder what daft/crazy/mad things have any of you done for a bet....or a dare. Were you successful?

I have to say at the outset........I have never done anything for a bet......I can't even think of anything I have done for a dare either.......what a sheltered life I have led.

Did you enjoy the book Margaret? I loved it, read it a while ago and had a good laugh at some of the things he and his fridge got up to. It could only happen in Ireland that people accepted this guy and his strange travelling companion.

Yes Willow, I did enjoy the book.....as you say it could only happen in Ireland......feted because of a fridge.
But I never believed that you lot wouldn't spill the beans on your successes.
Sparkologist,it is no good you telling me you succeeded, without giving more relevant details.
I want to know what you got up to.....you can change the names to protect the innocent.

During training at RAF Abingdon I bet my friend that I could jump out of a plane without a parachute. The bet was for £5. The bet was struck and without parachute I jumped out of the plane.
There was no stipulation that the plane had to be in the air.
I won my fiver and he went berzerk.

Re: For a bet....?

I once agreed to jump over a huge brook for a bet. I managed to land on the other side without getting wet, however I landed with one leg twisted and I kneed myself in the face with the other.
Had a nasty fracture but they thought I was joking so they all left me and I had to walk from ossy to accy on it, took about 9hrs. Went to the hospital the next day as I was too stubborn to ring an ambulance and I had a potted leg for 6weeks and gained the nickname hopalong.

Funny looking back at it though. The bad thing was that it was just a bet for no reward, so I gained absolutely nothing!

I would always accept a bet!

I have learned my lesson many times over - if someone says 'I bet you....' I stick my fingers in my ears and sing 'la, la, la...'

Very wise Gayle....very wise!

Cashy, isn't it something that you could clean up and make suitable for a family forum? I do so hate half a tale......or the temptation of one.
