Re: For Less
There was a model railway exhibition at the Hyndburn Sports Centre a few weeks ago which was very impressive, even if the admission fees were a little expensive.
However, I was pointed back in the direction of the East Lancashire Railway and if money allows I will be treating The Bride to Christmas lunch aboard a steam train at some point in December, something I wouldn't have found out about otherwise.
I must say that some of the stalls were selling very cheap 00 gauge engines and coaches compared to what the normal going rate would be. I've long since lapsed with my model railway but it was all interesting stuff.

Get back into it and live the boyhood life again. Will take the mind off the woes of the world and give you that extremely rare thing called "me time" again.

I was VERY tempted and I vowed that at some point I will because the kid in me woke up again watching those little trains. If we had the money I could have spent thousands that day.
Unfortunately, Rishton Towers is undergoing renovations at the moment and Christmas is looming but the loft conversion starts next year and I have a mind that it will be put to good use....

You could leave a space in the loft Ken, then you would have somewhere to spend your spare time

Thanks for that, but I over spent my railway Budget for this month at the Accrington Exhibition.

The Fees were on reflection a touch on the expensive side if you only have a passing interest in such things, but what the hey, these exhibitions are run by enthusiasts that have to make ends meet for the hire of such a prodigious Site.
First Time showing in The sports centre, one for Hyndburn nil for King Georges Hall Blackburn where it always used to be held.
Now, if only we can get this classed as an art form the grants would come pouring in and perhaps the entrance fees could be reduced or even abolished?

Sorry John, just spent the afternoon having my sides sewn up.
Explain the phrase 'spare time' to me again?

Seen as time spent sat in Council chambers, as by all accounts you don't get a look in due to one P.B. Esquire (allegedly) hogging & pre deciding issues.

I can table questions, for which I am guaranteed time to speak, but the First Earl of Oswaldtwistle always has the last word.
The main problem is actually getting him to arrange council meetings so that we can discuss the really serious issues in the borough. They're supposed to be every six weeks but we haven't had one since July.
He also schedules most of the tricky ones with votes he's likely to lose at 1pm so that the Labour councillors have a devil of a time getting there.
Democracy in action, vote Conservative if you like your borough run this way.

Re: For Less
Getting back on thread, has anyone else visited the splendid East Lancashire Railway?
My wife was bored to tears but I loved every second. You can feel the enthusiasm from the people who run it.

You could have added adventure to her life by suggesting she became a member oh the over 25 MPH club.

She doesn't do that in a car, the excitement of a steam engine doing that might prove too much.
