The culture as it is in the UK today needs very serious thought and consideration......If you put a bin out for collection and some 'Noddy' decides I'ts too full....you have got a problem.

If you want to discard some household furniture which is no longer wanted...Again you have a problem.
Why not take a leaf out of Spains book.....The government do if they are trying to convince you that taxation on a particullar item is justified.
Spanish youngsters do not go out of their way to create havoc in the communities that they live in.
In the cities there is unrest and that is the same in all cities in the world.
I live in a one block of six that are separated with a garden and swimming pool....which are very well looked after and used by all the inhabitants of these blocks.
There is a separate disposal area for rubbish....six large bins for general rubbish.....two large bins for plastic....two for paper and cardboard and one for glass.
Any discarded furniture can be placed behind the general rubbish bins and if the 'Pickies' as we call them, dont get to them first...they are removed.
The general rubbish bins are emptied every night...summer or winter.
The other containers are removed when full at the request of the building administrators.
There are 1500 people living in this Urbanisation.....How many streets and houses is that?

When I lived in Bolton, I had a council house, and once every now and again I think it was a few times a year, the Council would run a skip day, whereby you could basically put outside your house anything you didn't want, ie furniture etc and they would remove it for free.

They also used to provide big skips and you can just put all your rubbish in. It was great, obviously the idea was to stop fly tipping and it worked really well.

I know its an expensive thing to do, but justifiable??

Expensive for an individual but the waste would be taken to a registered transfer station and sorted....The then out and out rubbish would be offerd as landfill and that is an expensive.....tax I might add.

The fortnightly collections have been ok for me, mind you there are only two of us in the household, plus I recycle like a lunatic (my empty Rizla paper packet has to go in the cardboard lol ). Do my share of composting too.

Bet it’s a struggle to keep on top of things especially with a young family.

HBC stopped using the big bins ages ago. They found they were easily damaged when emptying them due to the weight of them or something. Now if they think you need it they give you an extra bin. Not sure if you get another normal size one or a small one.

I don't usually have a problem and recycle most things as I should - we are 3 children, 1 adult ( the missus ) and me

It can be a nightmare.
We live in a block of flats,12 in total,and use communal bins and by the time they get emptied they are overflowing and in hot weather it stinks!
The amount of council tax that we pay should cover a weekly collection surely?

the thing that really annoys me and is also ridiculous, the fortnightly recycle, the bin fer bottles, tin bag, paper bag, we store them in the yard, but have to carry em through the house dripping wet when its been raining, to place em at the front door,cos they will NOT collect em from the back. have had umpteen debates with the council about this, older or disabled would find this practice very difficult, plus aint very good when these articles are dripping on yer carpet,we recycle but these dozy prats DO NOT encourage people to do so.

I agree. Especially when your dog wees on them

I would`nt like communal bins.....folk could over fill them all the time and you may only have a couple of black bags......it would drive me mad, mad mad......
