Re: Fortnightly bin collection
I have no problems with the collection.
Personally I find wheelie bins are much more hygenic than the old bins with detachable lids, or black bin bags, which were easily over turned by a determined dog, and left the contents as easy pickings for vermin.

Re: Fortnightly bin collection
Well there's 9 in our household and we have just the one wheelie bin. We recycle everything we can and there's usually room left at the top of the bin!

Thats the problem in a nutshell!
People take advantage of them and the majority of the people here don't recycle either so that makes it worse.

Re: Fortnightly bin collection
blackburn have realised their big mistake in doing 2 weekly collections and have reverted back to weekly collections, aslo yorkshire or the parts i go to as far as i know has never changed from the weekly collections and collects recycled and household waste weekly but as usual HBC rather than address the problem and admit it dosnt work will blame us and try imposing fines because their system is unmanagable
people are having to make seperate trips to the tip which isnt on , my elderly mother rather than have to clean up after teh bin men gets a friend to take her rubbish to the tip as HBC actualy tried fining her for rubbish the binmen spilt out of her bin
some may manage to cope with the system but i drive round accy a lot and see a hell of a lot of binbags left on the street by binmen that are told not to take them which end up either shredded by cats or kicked around teh street by kids resulting in rubbish all over the place , is it any wonder there are so many problems with vermin

Re: Fortnightly bin collection
If I put mine out it gets emptied weekly, think it is because I am in the centre of town. Doesn't even get full in a fortnight just being me here and the grandkids when they stay

Re: Fortnightly bin collection
The bins didnt get emptied last bin day, and sat at the end of the back street (outside somebodies house) for over a week, by which time i am sure many will have had rubbish waiting, my guess is that if we have frequent snow, the bins are more likely to be almost a monthly collection. Further to this, when all this recycling business was first introduced, it was supposed to be about the environment, and the council reckoned it didnt line thier pockets, if this is so, why are there talks of stopping the waste paper collections now that the money for waste paper has hit rock bottom?

was wondering that meself, also if they do stop the waste paper collection it raises the point of where do ya put it? our wheely bin would not take it most weeks, with a fortnightly collection, as these clowns will probably NOT revert back to weekly, is this another way to "FINE" us plebs for overfilling? would not surprise me.

Re: Fortnightly bin collection
Just going back to what I said about the paper collections, and the money having gone out of it, we normally deliver our scrap paper and cardboard to rishton paper, this week we were charged for taking it there.
