Re: Freedom Of The Borough
The title has medieval origins, and at one time it involved having special priviledges such as avoiding trade tariffs and having special voting rights.
Today it holds no such priviledges and is nothing more than recognition of services rendered to a community.
As such the worthiness of it will always be subject to the community's experience to the service rendered.
Most of us value the service this site renders and use it.
Others try it and leave, so do not see any value in it.

Re: Freedom Of The Borough
I've always thought Retlaw should have some recognition for his service in years of work of the record of the Accrington Pals and work in the Library on the Census Reports, giving the people of Accrington information of their ancesters and a reminder of the lads who sacrificed their lives for us.
Course, realise he will not thank me for this suggestion ...

A gentleman called Colin Cooper leaps to mind as he has given years of service to improving Rishton and still does so now he is into his 80s.
Rishton is full of people who are community-minded and to be honest the shortlist would run to about 50 people. Each other ward would also have a similar list of their own residents, all of whom would be equally deserving so it shouldn't be an easy decision for anyone at Hyndburn Borough Council to make.
As far as the Britcliffe-bashing is concerned, I wandered slightly off-topic because he is asking the public for their opinion on something worthy but ultimately way down the list of priorities when other more important issues are forcibly sidelined.
Cancelling a scheduled council meeting that would have solved some borough-wide problems to the benefit of every community is not something I can condone.

Re: Freedom Of The Borough
Will the winner get to graze his sheep up the Coppice, and tether a horse to the door of the Town Hall.
Has Roy got a horse?
Will the same ancient rites be afforded if he tethers Less?

I like the idea too.
He works tirelessly, and has for years, to keep the sacrifices made by the Accy Pals fresh in our minds.

smell of deisel oil and sweat, an look like Compo.
(2) You have to kiss britcliffes arse, UUUUUUUuuugh.
(3) I do this because I want to, and don't go round proffesing to be
and expert on the subject.
(4) Katex all though you are entitled to your opinion, keep thi

I think I'll report this post, I haven't found a reason to yet, but I'm working on it.

Somehow, when I see him on Monday Roy will put similar views forward, why, oh why is there no such thing as irony any-more?

Jim Harkness of North Lancs Training Group.
This "apprenticeship school" has been operating for over 40 years now. I am delighted to learn its a local man who started all this off. Credit where its due. I intend to try and find out more about this gentleman then put his name forward.
