Wood is supposed to be a better insulator than PVC. All these draught free air tight UPVC houses are blamed for so called sick house syndrome.

Re: gas and electric
It's a rip off.. someone is making a lot of money out of power and food price increases.. they never had these problems in the old Soviet Union.. communism is the only way to beat these capitalist demons!

Re: gas and electric
so in theory if we use as much gas and electric as we can while its still at the lower price we could in theory damage the ozone layer even more which in turn will accelorate global warming which in turn should in theory make winters warmer so we wont need to use as much of the expensive gas and electricity when the rises take effect ?

Exactamento. My thoughts also>But since the massive SAVE IT campaign in the 70's I have had a change of mind. For example the more you save - the less they make so the price goes up so you pay the same. You are but a pawn in a game and there are 150 thousand,(estimated) Civil Servants) running round Westminster with bits of paper in their hands keeping you where you belong.By the way with all this global warming it's raining again and my heatings come on.
Need to adjust the fiddle

Also because people are aware of these huge increases in expenditure they are already cutting back and the economy is bound to suffer. I am certainly glad I am not an estate agent at the moment!
One of the problems we have is that our central heating boiler is in the kitchen and pumps out loads of heat making the kitchen sometimes unbearable. Obviously this is wasted heated which we could do with transferring next door to the lounge. anyone any practical ideas?

It sounds like you should have an air vent to dissipate the heat, lagging the pipes will also help, but if the boiler is an old one, you probably wont have it too long, and the new one wont give out lots of heat from the casing, and probably wont be in the kitchen either.

Re: gas and electric
As said in a previous post, energy bills went up 70% last year, and forecast another 30% this year, up until now I have had issues with renewable energy sources because it took so long to reap the rewards, but as by this time next year, the savings will be 100% more than last year, it is becoming a very viable option, we are (after years of suppliers pushing renewable energy) now training people at work in renewable enrgy installation, I guarantee that some people here will have at least had to consider renewable sources by 2010, one of the biggest sellers in the heating market at the moment is multifuel stoves, I think this is just the start.
