Re: GCSE Results
OK I apologise, the only university's policy on grades I know very well is Lancasters and they take into account all A levels if the offer of the main three is missed.
Bringing discrimination into it is a typical PC argument and one that is hypocritical in my view. All achievements should be considered, why should a student who has completed more than 3 A levels be undervalued?
GCSE's are looked at by Oxbridge but just because you haven't got straight A*'s and A's doesnt mean you wont be considered a place at them, I have friends studying at them who got A's B's and C's at school who went on to do well at A level and get a place.
From my experience of education pre-degree level is that they teach you nothing but how to pass exams rather than learning the subjects properly. I would rather stick pins in my eyes than go back to college.
Also cashy, I didn't meet the typical requirements for uni though I do have the number of points most uni's will accept, so I would have been denied a place at uni if it was as strict as you are suggesting might be a better system, and I've done really well this year. Point is, a lot of very capable people would miss out if it was tested like that.
I think everyone at uni knows someone who did get good A levels who is scraping their way through uni and doesnt really deserve their place at all, I know I certainly do and I find that much more disheartening than there being people on the course who didnt actually meet the entry requirements.
