Steph......the 8 comes from the G8 Summit that is being held at Gleneagles........the International Monetary Fund (of which there are 8 members I think.......) get together and discuss how to manage world debt.
Gordon Brown is going to try to get some concensus of opinion to cancel out at least SOME of the third world debt.

It is Ok to wipe out the debt of the third world countries, but in practice this may not benefit the poor people. The money may go into the coffers of the corrupt governments and may in fact then encourage them to incur more debt in the hope that this too will be wiped out at a future date.

Charity begins at home.......we have people in THIS country who could do with a helping hand.

The organisers reckon that lots of black artistes have been approched to take part, but they can't do it due to work commitments. However the fact that there are no black artistes has been mentioned on the radio news. I heard it the other day and thought it strange.

there was a debate on tv about the lack of black artist and in general people dint see it mattered

somone mentioned that mariah kerry wa sperforming and a black oannelist said well she isnt realy that black is she lol

the whole point is to raise money for starving people but as usual somone finds a way of bringing it down to and argument about racism

i dont see any wheel chair bound people performing either ime surprised the dogooders havnt jumped all over that one

I go against the flow and state that I am all for the folks who see a problem and want to give of their time and/or money to help get it fixed. If no one ever made an effort, if everyone sat on their handsm whining and complaining, there would be no progress in this sorry old world of ours. For these celebs, it would be far less fuss and bother in their lives just to sit by the pool and order some more champagne and caviar than to do their bit to solve the world's problems. Do they always succeed? Of course not. But they make the effort and for that alone, I will give them full marks.

But for folks like that, we'd all still be living in caves, fighting off sabre-toothed tigers.

Frankly, if you aren't working to be part of the solution (no matter how small a part), then it's virtually certain that you are just another part of the problem.

Just as a side note, it appears that the number one favorite activity in the UK may be the same as here in the USA - complaining. It's inexpensive, allows you to vent, gets you plenty of company in the form of fellow complainers, and usually accomplishes only one thing - that you are well-recognized as a complainer. I'll pass on that one, thanks!
