Really? This is the quality of labours shadow cabinet, in the last month or so this useless creature has gaffed how many times? And yet, unbelievably there are still the useless idiots out there who'd vote labour despite all evidence showing their idiocy & ineptitude!

Re: General Election called
With DisMay hedging her bets & unrest within the ranks one rather unassuming character from the back benches is slowly & quietly causing ripples which are now starting to be noticed within the politico swamp of "Wasteminster". The Mogmeister, is gaining "Moggmentum".
Although rather Marmitey (you love him or hate him), he appears to be one of those rather mythical creatures, a seemingly honest & principled politico! He has maintained his stance throughout & whether you agree or not with his standpoint at least he puts his views out in the open for all to see.
Jacob Rees-Mogg Breaks UK Political Taboos: Announces Opposition to Abortion, Gay Marriage
Could this be the UK's next PM? Despite his own protestations of not wanting the position ..... well as they say, sometimes the best laid plans etc. And when taking in to account the proceeding shower of she-ite that have supposedly led & run our once great country in the last 30 odd years, maybe the "Mogg is the man".

Re: General Election called
he does come over well when on television but for me he carries too much baggage to be the leader of the party. too much ex public schoolboy, a devout catholic and his publicised views would for me make him unelectable with all the floating voters.

Re: General Election called
He is a man who is not afraid to be honest about his convictions, his faith or his ideals and morals....and that has to be applauded.
He has ethics(not that I agree with some of them) and morals and that he is an ex public schoolboy from a privileged background is not his fault. I am more interested in a politician who is honest with the electorate...does not treat us like retarded children...someone who will listen to opinions which may be different from their own and then give them due consideration.
Now whether this is the man, I don't know and will not be expected to vote for him as he is not up for election in our locality.
We have had plenty of 'champagne socialists' in the past...those who connived to convince the electorate of their socialist leanings, their concern for the 'working classes' and then dumped on us from a great height.
He can be no worse of a bet than many of those surely?

Re: General Election called
agree with what you say margaret but honesty and politics make bad bed companions. need to come out with policies that you know will never be implemented just to get all the floaters on your side. unfortuanatly i cannot see him doing that. seems to say it like he sees it unlike some who want you to follow the half truths that they don,t believe in but spout em for votes.

Re: General Election called
I am not sure that I agree with what you say Monkey Hanger.
I think that over the years we have become used to those two faced politicians who are in it for themselves.
There were days when politicians were not in it for themselves, but wanted to serve their constituents. I can remember two of these in my lifetime...honest men who want to do their best for the people they serve...so it can be done.
From my own point of view I prefer honesty...it is a good coin to deal in.
Integrity cannot be bought.
I want politicians who tell me the situation as it is, not how THEY think I want it to be.
I am sick of sound bites and public relations spin because ultimately it means the person giving you this guff is not to be trusted.
Apathy has grown up because people no longer believe that they can change something by democratic process....and this is a very bad situation.
Telling students that you wipe out their debt.....is a lie.(this is what Jeremy Corbyn did)
Telling a lie to get floaters on your side is never a good bet...because it diminishes trust...yes the floaters might vote for you once(twice if they are really stupid) but you cannot build a voting base on lies and half truths.
Most of the people of my age group are savvy enough to spot when we are being fed a 'worm' with a hook in it.
I think that is why all those I know voted for Brexit.

probably same age group as you margaret and to most of us having common sense to see through these people a lot do not. with politics now being used as a new t.v. reality show with the leaders debates in the general election where how they come across against the others and not any policies the next thing will be a celebrity vote at the end. surely a 10 from len for mr.corbyn. needs to be a change where only a person that lives within a certain radious of their constituncy is allowed to stand for it. might rid us of the full time politicians of all parties who have no experiance of life away from it.

Nice idea, but highly unlikely, Most parties plant their poodles & sycophants in locations which garner the best results for the party & most definitely not the people .... as one Mr.G Jones has proven, a so-called local lad who's prime concern was party line (+ himself) & not populace.

Re: General Election called
Like Dave, I think that this is very unlikely to happen...they parachute in the people they think will take the most votes...like if it is an area with a high ethnic population, then they will put someone of that ethnicity forward...and hey presto...votes captured.
I am very cynical about politicians...and their motives for doing what they do.
My cynicism is born of bitter experience.
I am not the person who votes for the same party..or follows a particular party. I vote with my conscience and sometimes(if the candidates are a load of Fisons) I draw on my paper....But I DID make the trip to the polling station and pop my paper in the box.

Re: General Election called
Eh up, who rattled her cage? After months of nothing, nix nada, nullo up pops the "Harridan" woman (who not so long back supported pie & its aims) to have a dig at the Moggster, pots & kettles! If she wants deadbeats she ought to look in the mirror or at her hubby, the odious witch!
