Re: Genetically modified crops
I grow some vegetables and a lot of soft fruit in my small back garden. I also buy, where possible, organic produce in the shops and supermarkets. It used to be much more expensive than the non-organic but, thankfully, the price margin is narrowing. Pesticides and herbicides have probably made life easier for the farmer, in the past, but I don't want to eat weed-killer with my water cress or bug-killer with my broccoli.
When G M crops first hit the headlines I thought it was a good idea for the Third World countries to benefit from them. Now I am torn between the ability to grow previously impossible crops in needy areas and what may be contained in those crops. As a comparitively well-off (compared to the 3rd World) Western woman I have the choice of paying for safer, organic food. Many people cannot afford to choose between safer food or no food at all.
