Thumbs down Get it sorted.

PUBLIC HEALTH WARNING.

I was in Accrington town centre this morning for about an hour and in various shops i had to hold to my nose 4 times because people around me STANK.
I dont mean a bit whiffy, they left their smell in aisles that they had left a couple of minutes beforehand......its disgusting and there is no need.
I would have put this in 'anything goes' but i feel its a serious issue-fair enough if someone is homeless or has learning difficulties, but these people didn't.
Is this pure laziness?Whatever it is,it needs sorting.

Re: Get it sorted.

You sure it wasn't you that stank? People have been known to have accidents without realising it, you know.

Anyway it wasn't an 'accident' smell,it was unwashed bodies-not even B.O just a musty 'i dont wash' smell.

Not with all the junk food the kids eat these days. I can't tell the difference between the smell wafting from the local Macdonald's and that of the stuff that farmers spread over their fields.

Re: Get it sorted.

Most people did smell until after WW2
The Straight Dope: Is good personal hygiene a recent invention? (Did the days of old really stink?)
It is only now that most people dont, that you notice it more.
Sense of smell is heightened by pregnancy-(is there something you haven't told us )

I agree that the BO of a stranger can be very unpleasant, but it isn't harmful.
What bothers me more is the widespread use of poisonous petrochemicals masquerading as air fresheners/deodorisers which are harmful.

Twice in the last week I have had to wait in the chemists for a prescription and came out gasping for breath because they regularly spray in the shop. On the 1st of those visits I witnessed the counter girl spraying after a dirty man had been in, and asked her not to spray the end of the shop where I was sitting, but the artificial scent gradually permeated the whole shop area.

A walk down the detergent aisle in a supermarket is not possible for me.

Because I have a reaction to these petrochemical pollutants, I have eliminated them from my home environment, and my sense of smell has improved as a result.

There are toiletries, cleaning products, laundry products, and air deodorisers which do not contain poisons, but not many people take the trouble to find them and use them.

The petrochemical industry developed these products from mid 20th century, and research into asthma and other respiratory diseases is now considering that they are very likely to be a contributory factor in the increase of respiratory disease in our population.

So if I have to choose between breathing BO and poison - give me BO any time.

I have already mentioned that in my post- I remember that when I was pregnant I had to avoid the smell of cooking bacon and chicken because they made me vomit.

I tried very hard to think of a way to get the council involved, here goes:-

Perhaps the Council should issue the 'Litter Police' with sniffer dogs and anyone that causes the animal to keel over and faint can then be issued with an on the spot fine or a bar of carbolic?

By the name of this threads title are you saying it's accyweb members that are to blame by the way? because if your not then how can we 'get it sorted'?

Re: Get it sorted.

I dont use air fresheners or those plug-in things in my house and haven't done since i was pregnant-i cant imagine them being nice or very healthy for Jack.....being a tiddler he is much closer to plug sockets than we are n if they are pumping out stinky stuff every few minutes i could see it being harmful.
I have the opinion that if your house smells,it needs cleaning.
If we have a whiffy nappy,i open a window.
As for the pregnancy suspicions...........HAHA no way!im past my broodiness and hopefully it will stay that way because im 80% sure i dont want another pot-lid.
Never say never though
