Re: Give.......
I've never given blood, but I might go down to this one and give it a go.

Re: Give.......
I go every 3-4 months at work. It takes ~1 hour all in (slightly longer first time) including your brew and biscuit.
Well worth it IMHO.
it may be worth doing the questionaire on www.blood.co.uk to make sure you would be eligable before you go down.

Re: Give.......
Like entwisi we get the blood bus quarterly anddo donate though we cant always get on the bus which in summer is great but murder in winter. It is a small little act than can mean with the selfless acts of others the differance between life or death for someone in hospital.

I've been donating blood since I turned 18 - so I'm an multi-gallon donor. A jab in the arm is a small price to pay when you consider the potential results. BTW, for those folks who are a bit worried about how much it will hurt, it's not at all bad. A minor pain as the needle goes in, but once it is in your arm, no more pain - you'll scarcely notice it.
In any case, I'll give a big, big cheer for all those folks who help save lives by donating!

Re: Give.......
I started giving blood when I was 18 and actually went to try and get over my phobia of needles...which I explained and they were great!! And yes it worked, still hate them but no longer phobic about them.
I give often as I can but often get turned away as I have a very low iron count.
Take note also that many employers will allow employees to leave work without losing time/money to give blood...mine do

Re: Give.......
They don't want mine, as I once danced with a boy, who danced with a girl, who danced with a boy, who danced with the Prince of Wales.

Re: Give.......
It’s just my opinion but I think that every adult should give blood once a year if their blood is acceptable.
I started off when I joined the navy and have given blood all over the world. No! Not on a barroom floor but properly in a bottle. In places like Bahrain they actually paid you for it too but there was no tea and a biscuit. They won’t take any nowadays. Too old and a heart and kidney condition, not to mention blood full of Warfarin prevents them.
So a message to all those who abhor the site of a needle – don’t look. The pain is only a small scratch and only lasts for a second or two. Just think of the selfless service you are giving to someone. It could save their life. And don’t forget that if you are unlucky enough to need blood to save your own life, someone will have given it without a thought to their own discomfort.
As the advert states, “Do something amazing. Give blood.”
Why is it that when nurses prepare to stick a needle in your arm they always say ‘just a small scratch’? It’s not a scratch it’s a prick. Why don’t they say ‘just a small prick’ and have a good laugh at the same time?
