Give up smoking ...

How about this then ... give up smoking and get £12.50 in vouchers to spend at the local supermarket!!!

BBC NEWS | Scotland | Tayside and Central | Cash incentive to quit cigarettes

They do have to prove it by the carbon monoxide test that they havent had a ciggie .. Thing is though when you give up smoking you will have the money you used to spend on fags which if you smoke 20 day £35 extra in your pocket ... so buying healthy food shouldnt be a problem should it ...

Re: Give up smoking ...

I read the article you directed us to so thanks for that
I also started a mini search for additional 'catches' which hasn’t been very informative.
I see the card they are issued with for Asda prevents purchasing booze and fags and I'm left wondering what else is/will be added to the 'Banned' list and how this will develop and get bigger.
I am currently getting masses of paperwork, directives and guidelines around obesity and everyone can see this being targeted in the media
The guides are very stringent and unforgiving and the venom with which they are being implemented is escalating. (Just like the smoking campaign really)
Even the increased tax on chocolate is aimed at restricting our choices and maybe that’s an impingement of our civil liberties.
I’m also getting lots of information filtering through about alcohol now too, insidiously saturating what people ‘should’ be doing.

Oh I’m right up there for promoting healthy lifestyles and ensuring we all have a good quality of life until ‘the end’ however, I can’t help but think the pressure verges on bully boy tactics, shaming people and a ‘Tell’ approach

I go with educating people about the impact then allowing them to make choices armed with facts, not berating them for making what may be considered to be poor choices.

A support not a fascist regime… (that a bit strong? Hahaha)

hmmmm....bit of a wander there eh?

Re: Give up smoking ...

Nobody knows better than me about smoking, the first time a doctor mentioned cutting down, I cut them out altogether, that's 31 years ago. When I was a kid it was cool to smoke, nearly everybody did it, both my parents smoked, my mother gave up when I was young, about four or five, and my dad when I was twenty. The thing that's annoying me is that all these government directives, on things such as binge drinking, obesity are starting to annoy, I like a drink, but can't remember the last time I was drunk, maybe my 50th Birthday. I also like my food, I maybe a few pounds over weight but I'm certainly not obese. I can't understand why people who behave responsibly should be hit in the pocket for the actions of a few who can't control their on intake

No health professional would actively encourage you to use artificial sweeteners if they didn't balance the risks.
'They'? I assume you mean the commercial companies? Yeah they have profits to make, research to fund, and products to sell and know their products own a place
And they do

Re: Give up smoking ...

When the food famine starts, fat people will be a nuisance to the world government because they wont die within the planned timescale

that's surreal
