Give your time for free if you work at Blackburn Hospital.....
Blackburn Hospital have asked their staff to give 16hrs of their time over a month for free to become "special constables" and help prevent crime in the hospital.
Now, dont nurses/doctors work hard enough without giving their time for free to potentially put themselves in danger?
Unbelievable.......heres the link.
Royal Blackburn Hospital workers urged to patrol site as special constables (From Lancashire Telegraph)

I'm not they only one on here that have reasons to thank and respect Doctors, nurses and all hospital staff but I don't think after a days training on security they should have the same powers as our police force, this smacks as cost cutting exercise by the police who have been put under spending pressure by this government.

I just dont think they should be asked to do it in the first place to be honest.
They do a good enough job doing what they specialise in, simple.

Re: Give your time for free if you work at Blackburn Hospital.....
This sort of thing was always going to happen..there's now way we can make massive cuts in policing and not expect bad results in the increase of crime and specially street crime..some of the top brass policemen have had the guts to say so but most just keep stum and try to make up the difference with badly trained specials on less wages..this is has been the policy of the government from day one.

Re: Give your time for free if you work at Blackburn Hospital.....
i suppose after beating you with the batton or tazaring you they can administer first aid
on a serious not its abhorant that in order for them to have protection they must work an inhumane amount of hours then log off only to become a police officer.I genuinly hope no one voulenteers their security shoudl be provided by government and paid for by them.
heres an idea instead of pussy footing around with morons who attack nurses how about fining them propperly or making them work then using any money made from fines or work they do fund the security staff
its staggering how this government and the last government can find money to treat people who cling on to the underneath of trucks to come here illigally but cant find money to pay propper wages to nurses or provide security for them

So long as they reduce costs, this lot will resort to anything, as this idea proves.

Re: Give your time for free if you work at Blackburn Hospital.....
Lots of people work full time jobs and then volunteer as special constables. I don't like the idea of special constables anyway but some might like the idea of looking after their friends and colleagues in this way.

Agree some may like the idea, but there's knob heads in every walk of life.

Re: Give your time for free if you work at Blackburn Hospital.....
Couldn't they just allow the staff to defend themselves appropriately, anyway; and discharge troublesome patients?
A nurse I know had to deal with a patient trying to set the ward on fire last week. She should have been able to just get the porters to take him to the front door and leave him there. A few weeks earlier, it had been a patient brandishing a fire extinguisher. Shame they didn't get aggressive on the same night...
Although there are signs all over the hospitals preaching zero tolerance to violence against staff, the reality is that patients are assumed to be "too ill" to be responsible for their actions. Staff have little or no support.
Tasers aren't a good idea, with all that oxygen in the wards. Apparently, they'd get a uniform, truncheon and handcuffs, though. My nursey friend rather likes the idea...

I think that the Big Society is; they cut jobs then expect members of the community to make up that shortfall by doing the cut jobs voluntarily as members of the community!
