Glasgow School of Art

What dreadful news about the devastating fire at the Glasgow School of Art. So many students have studied at the school over the years with lots of successful outcomes. It has played such an important part in many lives.

My youngest daughter was on the staff there for a number of years when she lived in Glasgow and when we visited the UK in 2012 she took us on a tour of the school. It was very impressive, a beautiful old building.

From the pictures I’ve seen it looks like it will be beyond restoration and if this is the case it will be so sad to lose such an iconic building, part of the history of Glasgow. I feel very sorry for all those who will be affected by its loss.

Re: Glasgow School of Art

Very sad news indeed Dotti...The news here today is that the damage is so great that it cannot be restored.

It is always sad when a great bit of a city is lost.
But the legacy of this great establishment will go on while ever there are people who studied there...and can make a difference to lives with their work, exist.

It cannot be refurbished. It cannot be replaced.
I suppose it could be rebuilt in the style that was its hallmark...but whether that will happen is anyone's guess.
I just hope they do not replace it with something modernistic and ugly(I find that most modern architecture has nothing characterful about it).

Yes, it's not looking good for restoring it - anywhere up £100million ....
