Somehow, cuckoo references seem appealing vis-a-vis Mr. Rumsfeld. One could call the whole Iraq strategy "cuckoo," but we'd be insulting our avian friends. Rumsfeld is one of the fellows who, despite some sound military advice from military men such as General Colin Powell, helped get us into this parlous situation. Much like the cuckoo, he laid the fighting men and women of the US and UK (and others) in Iraq's nest. And now, the "tit" is surely caught in the wringer! (Talk about mixing one's metaphors!)

The above quote answers all the questions.

I wouldn't have got in the same position you are by your blind support to anything Israel says.

A quote from the supposed intellectual Rumsfeld.
[Osama bin Laden is] either alive and well or alive and not too well or not alive.

He has been an exemplary public servant. However, it was time for him to go. Six years is a long time in the Sec Def job. It's a very tough gig - especially in a time of war. Not to mention that he has had to reform the institution and rebuild the military after it was cut drastically during the '90's.
Here in Georgia, the Republicans did very well. The party nationally ought to take note. In short, Republicans in this state did what they were elected to do and didn't dis the people who brought them to the dance. Interesting to see how many Democrats ran as conservatives in order to get elected this time around. What we down here refer to as Blue Dog Democrats. Let's see how independent these freshmen are when they get to Washington and have to deal with their ultra left leadership. It's going to be fun.

Good points Barb. Unfortunately, Rumsfield could never dig out from some early gaffs and the press dumping so many negative things against him or attributed to him. Though later proved untrue, the republicans made a poor job at facing and correcting these allegations head on. Hence so many false impressions of what Rumfield actually stood for or against.
As far as the next 2 years being fun with the likes of Nancy Pelosi, Charles Rangel, Hillarious Clinton, Teddy Kennedy etc., in charge of things, heck even the republicans weren't that bad as america will soon see!

Re: Goodbye Secretary Rumsfeld
LYY, I take exception to the disparaging remarks about 'our' Nancy Pelosi ,here in the Bay Area she is seen as a moderate, similar to Diane Feinstien,
Have to agree with you on the Clinton woman though , I lost all repect for her when she didn't use the iron skillet on 'I never had sex with that woman' Bill .
its all checks and balances, every time you guys in the South elect some scary monster , like mommie dearest Elizabeth Dole, we in the west will elect another Barbara Boxer

Re: Goodbye Secretary Rumsfeld
I could respect good ole Jesse , he was a bigoted pig , but he knew it and one could disagree but respect his views ,
Mommie Dearest Dole was the President of the American Red Cross and drew thousands in salary whilst charging working class Americans hundreds of dollars for a pint of donated blood (American Red Cross is in control of blood donations in the US) she reminds me of a botoxed Margaret Hamilton character in the Wizard of Oz movie

Re: Goodbye Secretary Rumsfeld
hey the folks in Mass march to a different drummer , why else keep electing Teddy 'killer' Kennedy for all these years , McCain is talking out of both sides of his mouth , also I seem to remember he was involved in the savings and loan scandal a few years back . No one is stirring my interest for 08 , maybe Evah Byah from Indiana ? , forget Barack Obama , no way will America vote for a guy with the middle name Hussien , Guliani is an outsider , dont think middle(rattle snake handling) America will take to a New yorker who shares an apartment with two gay room-mates

Re: Goodbye Secretary Rumsfeld
Yea, good old Ted. It would be a good idea to make him the designated driver for all personnel attending democratic party conferences.

Well said JohnW. How bout Bill "I never . . ." Clinton being in charge of the entertainment?
All our northern families live in Rhode Island where Patrick "the dunce" Kennedy is a congressman. I guarantee he will never lose an election. Those states are 140% democratic (when you count the votes from the cemetaries)

I hope you're not suggesting that there is any corruption in the home of democracy?
Why fiddle-di-de.
