Gordon got it.

So Gordon Brown is the new leader of the Labour party - no contest.

But who will get the deputy job. Our own Greg Pope has supported Hilary Benn, Burnley's MP, Kitty Ussher and Rossendales MP Janet Anderson are backing Hazel Blears and Jack Straw hasn't said yet.

So, question to Greg, if the vote is thrown open to Labour party members, (will that happen?) why should my vote go to Benn - or anyone else for that matter?

Re: Gordon got it.

Gayle, out of curiosity, should labour party members feel cheated they didn't get round to having a say in the new leader ?

Re: Gordon got it.

Personally, I'm not that bothered. In some ways you have to say that it makes sense for the people with the most knowledge in this situation to make the decision. I suspect some people will feel cheated but I guess the outcome was always expected to be this one.

Yes, no surprises there then.
If he follows his promises to listen to the people, and give them more power and responsibility then maybe he will be able to restore some confidence in the party. We will just have to wait and see if he is as good as his word - or if talk is cheap, action expensive!

I dont trust him and proberly never will. Think the so called selection process was a sham. I would need to see the goods to consider a changing my views then it would have to be a miricle.

No Spuggie, I don't trust him either. But then I can't really point to a politician that I could trust to hold my glasses, let alone power over the country.
