I think the cost of Mt Rushmore is in the tens of millions. Where would we get the dosh from and whose face's would you want to put on there? Britcliffe's?

Wouldn't that require TWO faces?

Not sure about the Mount Rushmore thing - aren't we going back to the Hollywood sign silliness with that idea. I like the idea in the other letter of having some reference to the town's name in it though with the ring of oak theme. Not so sure about the illumination suggestion - wasn't that one of the objections when the UFO was mooted?

Re: Great new panopticon idea!
This panoticon thing won't go away, will it? Very well...if those petty Stalinist bureacrats of the MPAA, the NWRDA and HBC insist on us having one, then what about a large Doner Kebab slowly rotating on it's spindle? It would serve several purposes...Firstly, it would remind people of Accy's new local delicacy; secondly, it would symbolise just how tacky Accy has now become; and finally, it could probably be done for a hell of a sight less than £50,000....just sweep up all the dogsh*t from Accy's streets, slap it round an old telegraph pole and bung it on top of the coppice.

Re: Great new panopticon idea!
Seeing its the top of the coppice and the council will have to look after it and mend the paths etc why dont we go for a secret garden type theme, by the time a council worker got up there what ever it was would be overgrown.

Re: Great new panopticon idea!
Rob has his tongue firmly in cheek about the Mt Rushmore and suggests PB,Jack Grime,Tim O'kane,Ken Hargreaves and my dear old Uncle Ian!He asks if one of the design team could do an artists impression!

That is probably the most sensible suggestion I have heard during this whole sorry farago; create a zero-maintainance wilderness - Inspired!

Re: Great new panopticon idea!
I think they should just do smaller pieces or artwork and put them in various places about town. They can still have one on the coppice, just smaller and it could tie in to the rest of the artwork. In fact it could be like the 'acorn trail' thingy, just instead a trail of artwork. That way people in all areas of the town can see some of it, not just the ones near to the coppice.

Re: Great new panopticon idea!
In order to have a Mount Rushmore wouldn't we need to have a rocky outcrop?
I hope I get to see the designs on display. We're going away on Monday for a week.

Re: Great new panopticon idea!
why dont they build a kiosk up ther so that people can buy cups of coffee when they get to the top and a snack to eat while looking at the view
i would hate to be the poor sod who has to climb the coppice every day to get to work though lol
