Great thing about crimbo...

the decorations outside the houses... they look brill

even the ones that are wayyyyyyyyy ott...

driving into Accy the houses look wicked. i remember mentionin it to a few mates last yr how ppl are more likely to spend on lights etc for the outside of the house and it was on the radio that a "report" that peopl were too...

i think soon it'll b like they show in some places in america where the house can be seen from 5 miles away! *L*

*LOL* but i think some people are already there!!!

a pity eastenders couldnt put something like that up...maybe it would be a good idea for a xmas plot ..instead of the usual adultery ,murders ,doom and gloom etc etc ..

Re: Great thing about crimbo...

The top one actually looks quite good, some thought has gone in to it, the other two look like shop displays to me. I decorate three blocks of six flats, a block of three shops with houses above, all next to each other, and the pub opposite. also my nans a few streets away. I try to keep things neat, tidy symetrical, and with some logic to it. I could smother everywhere with lights, I only put about a third of available working lights up each year, but it would just look like its a shop display. I'm lucky in the way i've got three blank walls 30ft high by 26ft wide and a great big barn at the pub to put my art on.This year I put two skating penguins up, created a pond and land each side with clear rope. a tree at the edge, a northern star at one corner, santa on the moon at the other, and three snow flakes. Next year I'd like to get computer controlled and design a toy factory, I might make the frames and rope them myself. It will have a conveyor belt and toys traveling in to a wrapping machine, present emerging to be loaded on the train. All moving cogs and smoke and stuff. Loads of toys about too soldiers, teddy bears, candy sticks.

Re: Great thing about crimbo...

If the second one put half of that up and displayed it properly it would look good. Sometimes less is more. People come up to me and say, your mad, but I like it cos yours is just enough, the others look nice that are plastered but yours is nice cos its just enough.

Some of the houses look absalutly stunning.
I saw one tree and all it had on it were blue bulbs.
It twinkled so brightly.
It made me gasp more than some of the over done houses.
Less can definatly mean more.

Re: Great thing about crimbo...

I Love houses that are lit up on the outside. An avenue near me has about 4 houses all done up and it looks brilliant. I do agree that less is more though as it doesn't take much to make a house or garden look good.

Less IS More

More what? I hear the doubters shout! Well obviously more dashing, more debonair, more than most people can stand after just one meeting!

Re: Great thing about crimbo...

There are five houses together here, all smothered, all got front gardens full, I'll try and take a pic.
