Greg Pope to stand down at next election.
According to the Observer Greg Pope is to stand down at the next General Election.
According to the paper it has nothing to do with the events of recent weeks, but he feels now is the time to move on to other things.
Personally I feel very sad, as I feel he's been an excellent M.P. for Hyndburn for the past seventeen years, and in my own dealings with him he's been very approachable, very helpful, and professional.
I wish you all the very best for your future, and thank you for everything you've done for the area, and will continue to do until an election is called.
Your's will be very big boots for the local Labour party to fill, if not neigh on impossible.

Point taken Mr Ed.
I was in a hurry, and more sloppy than usual.
Sticking to an equine theme, I think it is now anyone's race here in Hyndburn.
Even with the present unpopularity of the government, and the disdain politicans have provoked because of the expenses scandal, I do think Greg Pope had a good chance of keeping his seat, because of his proven track record.
I think it's now highly likely the Conservatives could put forward a monkey in a suit, and it would be a likely victor.
I wonder if one particular monkey sees this opportunity as being third time lucky?

Well as I site here weighing up the situation, with a nice bottle of Chardonnay, Hand on heart I can't answer that question Rindi, even though I have spoken to Peter on numerous occasions over the last few weeks, even this afternoon, I honestly don't know. He could well be interested, there are few people who know Hyndburn Better than Peter, but as soon as I know who our candidate is, and remember I have a vote in the selection process, you will be the second to know Rindi

I mentioned no names.
I wouldn't be so rude as to call anyone a monkey.
Still, if the little velvet monkey cap, with a tiny bell, fits....

Well I can't think of anybody else in recent times that stood for the Tories twice and lost, so you can actually name some one without saying the name Rindi, that is unless you think the good members of Accy Web are all total donuts, that is

Re: Greg Pope to stand down at next election.
It will be really sad to see Greg stand down for me, his name has been a household name for me as far back as I have been aware of politics and it will be hard to replace him.

Re: Greg Pope to stand down at next election.
I for one was shocked when I heard this, I didn't see it coming. Although I may not agree with the ways Greg has voted on many an occasion, he has been a good local MP. He has always been fast and full in his answers to my queries and will be a hard act to follow.
Best of luck for what the future brings!

Re: Greg Pope to stand down at next election.
Although I have never contacted Greg personally my son e-mailed him a few weeks ago about a problem he was having. It was sorted within a couple of days thanks to Gregs intervention. Sorry to see him step down.
