Guns on Accy's Streets
The other night, early evening, a couple of lads in their teens were walking up the our street on the opposite side to us. They'd be something in the region of 15 to 18 years old at a guess. They were wearing the usual kind of sports gear with baseball caps. One lad pulled out a gun and started brandishing it at his mate. It looked real enough to me as they turned the corner, the "armed" lad still waving his weapon around.
The question Im posing is...What should I have done?
Should I have confronted them?
Should I have rang the police?(I had a mind to but would I have been an overreacting old ******)
Was I right to do nothing?(wind my neck back in and pretend I saw nothing)
Maybe it was just horseplay I dont know, its been on my mind a little bit for a day or two now.
I'd like to hear some views on how you would have reacted

Re: Guns on Accy's Streets
I for one wouldn't have confronted them, what if it was real? They wouldn't think twice about using it, think I would have rang the police. Better to be safe than sorry IMHO.

Maybe I should have gotten in touch with the police, you know the type of thing that goes through your head. My conscience and I are at odds.

Wouldn't let it worry me, always hard to decide what to do.

Re: Guns on Accy's Streets
I would just like to add that the fact I didnt ring the police wasnt due to a lack of confidence in them. I think they would have taken it very seriously, maybe had the helicopter up, the armed policeunit out, police dogs out and likely cordoned off some of the local streets all for what was maybe just two lads havin the crack...all be it a rather stupid crack in light of the times

Would have taught the lads a lesson if it had happened like that. They act like prats should be shown up for what they are!!!

Re: Guns on Accy's Streets
Personally I would have rung the police, I certainly wouldn't dare confront them. But even if you had rung the police they could have been long gone before they actually got round to going and having a look.
And people wonder why i'm thinking of moving away.

To be honest its like that all over the UK because this country hasn't got its law in order, if i could i'd move abroad as many people are doing.

Re: Guns on Accy's Streets
The police would have run round to face the danger off for you with the speed of a constipated rocking horse. If you challanged them you could have been on the receiving of something nasty. There is a lot of prancing around by the teens and there ego will have them running around with a gun. Sometimes see note and stay stum helps.

I would have phoned the police. I don't know if they would have responded quickly but I certainly wouldn't have confronted the lads.

Re: Guns on Accy's Streets
No Country at present can offer anyone perfect safety from these type's, the witness protection programme in the USA, is as good as it gets, but there are members of the law enforcement agency that can be 'bought as money talks all languages. Discretion is the greater part of valour, "Grassing" is the most unforgivable offence wihin the criminal fraternity. Each person values their life in different degrees, a case for ones own concience.

Re: Guns on Accy's Streets
I think I would have called the police though what they'd have done I dont know, it frightens me that todays youth think its clever to carry a weapon, or actually feel they need to for protection.

Very frightening, Grego.
I think I would have called the police too. I certainly wouldn't have confronted the lads.
