Halo, halo, what's that there?
Glancing up a side street in Haslingden there appears to be something odd up on top o' slate.
On closer inspection - it turns out to be the Rossendale panopticon. The Halo.

I'm sure when we saw the original artists impressions it was going to be a more solid structure. Apparently it lights up at night! But it is powered by a wind turbine I believe so no carbon footprint.

Not just Hyndburn! apparently, the Ribble Valley also said F*** O** which is foreign for "go away, we don't want you!"
That makes 4 out of 6 planned Panopticons up and running - and 2 rejected
They are all similar in that they are NOT signposted, very hard to find, mostly inaccessable, about as artistic as a soiled bed - - - and the only people to benefit from them are the "creators" and the quangos that "pushed" them!
Tomorrow, all you local accyweb members, can you ask any 3 people that you meet if they have:
1) Heard about a Panopticon,
2) Have they seen one (or more)
3) Their opinion (assuming you meet someone that has actually seen one)
It would be interesting to see the replies on the accyweb!!

Haven't heard of one; haven't seen one; and it looks like a futuristic bong.

Re: Halo, halo, what's that there?
Sadly, Colourfields (the Blackburn one) is now an eyesore. Apart from, the fact that the colours have faded thus making its name somewhat ironic, it is filthy, has attracted graffitti and seems to be being used as a public convenience. It's probably a good thing it isn't well signposted because it really doesn't do the town any favours at all.
This Rossendale one was supposed to be located somewhere where it could be seen for miles around (I seem to remember they said the same about Burnley's SRT too) but you've a job to spot it even from Haslingden - and then you have the challenge of working out how to get to it. I pity the people who live at the bottom of Higher Lane if the site does attract visitors in the summer. They've got a car park planned up there so presumably they are hoping it will become a popular destination.

Re: Halo, halo, what's that there?
But what are they for? Is it just Art or do they have a purpose? The one in the picture just looks like the skeleton of a Flying Saucer.
