Re: Harry Potter

Found the book on internet my gf's been reading it She'll be buying it tonight tho!

Asda were originally going to be boycotted because the publisher claimed to not be paid, but they have sorted that out now and asda have slashed the price.

I'm totally against the whole Asda thing. It will put smaller more book specific stores out of business if Asda do loss-leading selling like this just because they can afford to with their mountains of cash.
If the smaller book stores didn't exist Harry Potter would have never took off because it was a slow seller and the supermarkets would have just sent it back.

Re: Harry Potter

Totally agree with you there Cyfr. ADSA and the like have been the death knell for shops like Wardleworths which I used to love.

Cool Re: Harry Potter

ASDA notice this afternoon. From midnight tonight. New Harry Potter book £5. 2 per customer. First come first served.

If ASDA is selling the book at a loss then that is below the belt and they should be hauled over the coals because as I understand it loss leaders are not legal any more.

However if £5 generates ASDA at least 1p profit then that is market forces at work. It does begger the question though – if ASDA can sell the book at £5 and still make a profit imagine what profit a book shop is making by selling the book at the RRP of around $17.

Personally I will wait until the film comes out on DVD. I’ve got the first four because they are rattling good yarns and I’m looking forward to getting the remainder over time.

I'm being hassled by my daughter who wants to go to the Asda at midnight despite the fact that my wife and daughter have one pre-ordered from WH Smith and I have access to a downloaded version for them to read, anyone going at midnight?
