Harry Potter is the devil in disguise !
Our town's most outspoken vicar is once again throwing his toys out of the pram !
The Rev. Kevin Logan is quoted in this week's Observer as saying that Harry Potter books encourage kids "to be curious in an area that God forbids " namely the occult and paganism.
What utter baloney.
Logan also goes on to say " is it worth telling young people about our real saviour, Jesus Christ, while we run the risk of losing their souls to witchcraft because of stories like these ?"
He goes on... " I find it hard to understand how 21st century man with all his technology seems to be turning towards superstition. "
I am sorry but what is going on in his head ?
The Bible is a great book , no doubt about that, but to try to tell us that our kids will grow up to be more interested in the occult because they have read a Harry Potter book and not the Bible is quite frankly ludicrous.
So , good people of Accyweb; have any of you noticed your kids dabbling in the occult since reading the last Harry Potter book?
Discuss.....

Re: Harry Potter is the devil in disguise !
BTW this is the same Vicar who once openly accused me of being a "Satanist" at a quiz night because I had a t- shirt on with a " heavy metal" bands name on it !
This bloke is taken seriously and he has a book out on this subject; it's a real issue to him, he will be erecting a stake for burning witches given half a chance .

Stuff like this keep's doing the rounds but I would think the internet would form a greater risk tha Master Potter...... . I've dabbled over the years and I've had a few bumps; but no harm done to self or others.

He seems to revel in the publicity; if it reaches the tabloids it just makes us look even more like Royston Vasey !

Re: Harry Potter is the devil in disguise !
The " village" in the tv show " League of Gentlemen" where they are all odd and interbred and don't like people who aren't "local" . Bit like " the "Wickerman " in comedy form. Think the original idea was to set it somewhere up near Bacup !

Re: Harry Potter is the devil in disguise !
When I saw the headlines I KNEW it just had to be him!
What the Rev Kev and others like him seem to forget is that for centuries children have read fairy stories with wicked witches and evil wizards in them. Has anybody ever started practicing black magic after watching Judy Garland in "The Wizard of Oz" ?
All he's doing is getting Christianity a bad name.
If he ever bothered to read Harry Potter he would see they are adventure stories where good eventually triumphs over evil. Good moral story that.

Re: Harry Potter is the devil in disguise !
Does this guy know that half of the stuff in Christianity was nicked from other religions including Paganism & Sun Worshippers. Because Constantine who decided to unify all religions was a Pagan. For example:
Angels Halo's have been taken from Egyptian Sun Discs, The pre-Christian God Mithras - called the Son of God and the Light of the World - was born on December 25, Jesus' actual Birthday is thought to be some time in April. Christianity honored the Jewish Sabbath of Saturday, but Constantine shifted it to coincide with the pagan's veneration day of the sun.
Most of these things, including when Easter should be held were decided by the Council of Nicaea.
On the Harry Potter thing young children will just go around with a stick shouting "Expelliarmus" if they do think to look into The Occult & Paganism then i'm assuming that they are old enough to realise what it is.

Harry and co do not have wings white gowns or a hallo so in his eyes they should not be battling evil. So in his opinion the big dude upstairs should be doing it with his angels. Its codswallop because if that attitude was to ring all over we would have no society. Children learn from stories that are showing right from wrong good from evil etc. So by his reasoning the evil people that murder kids should be chased caught and tried by the clergy? That is the impression I get of this collared twallly!
My daughter has read the books and it has done no harm to her at all. That I believe applies to all kids that read these books.
