Has anybody any idea what this is?
We were out and about between Bolton by Bowland and Gisburn on Saturday and stopped by the River Ribble and spotted this building in an obvious state of ruin but we are so curious about what it could have been. Does anybody know?

Re: Has anybody any idea what this is?
It looks like a very small ruined castle! It's all overgrown and brambly but we did get a bit closer and this is what the inside looks like. At one side on one of the curcular sections there are steps going up. It would be too risky to try climbing them though. You can just about see them in the photo. The ceiling in the central section is all vaulted and very impressive.

Re: Has anybody any idea what this is?
What it is, is a crime that such a building should be left to disintegrate in such a way. That building is amazing, beautiful, perfect in proportion, I wanna live in it.
Is there a big house near by, or in the grounds of an estate?

Re: Has anybody any idea what this is?
There's a similar building near here which has been bought and renovated with extensions and made into a home. It was a 19th century water tower, originally built to look like a castle. It has just the one tower, rather than 2, and I believe that now has a hot-tub on top!

Re: Has anybody any idea what this is?
It's right on the banks of the river. Not big enough to live in. There's basically just the one room which is all pillars and vaulted ceiling and then two very small tower shapes at either side. One has a staircase inside, around the edge of the wall which you can barely see in the picture and the other one hasn't. Yet the middle section doesn'tm have an upper floor as far as we could tell because it doesn't seem much higher outside than the ceiling inside. I suppose it could be a folly but it's a shame it's falling to bits whatever it is. Round the other side there's a blocked up doorway which would have led into that same vaulted ceiling "room".

Is it not marked on an ordinance survey map?
What is the Duracell bunny doing there as well?
