Re: has anyone been to the lake disterict lately

I went to the lake district last summer!!

Beautiful place...and hope to go sometime this summer.

We didn't get to go on the boats as it was quite late afternoon, as we didn't even intend on going to the lake district. But this summer I will deffo be going out on the boats.....beautiful scenery.

When people say "The Lakes" do they mostly mean Windermere? It's the most commercialised. I always find Wastwater to be rather gloomy and sinister. Ullswater I like.

Anybody have a favourite lake? Brotherswater is lovely as you come over Kirkstone Pass.

I agree with Ullswater - avoid the crowds of Windermere, beautiful scenery, nice picnic areas and yes hire boats too, = if you want one of the most beautiful views you'll ever see walk up to Lantys Tarn from Patterdale, not too taxing and then go towards the headland overlooking Ullswater - its a view you'll only ever see on a chocolate tin

I think of it as the entire park not just the well known parts. Only ever travelled through in the past 20 years which is a disgrace, shame on me. It is a beautiful place to visit.

I prefer the lake at Keswick. We used to go there in a caravan. We loved our time there.

I took a group of bikers round there a few years ago. most of them city dwellers. A few of them almost crashed as they were too busy admiring the scenery.

Tarn Hows is lovely(Just outside Hawkshead)

I agree Keswick is nicer and quieter than Bowness, more to do at Bowness though.

I like Ambleside - it's got that cute little house and a rock shop. I love rock shops.

I love Amble side. We also drove through Kendal which looked just as lovely.

I wouldn't recommend going into the cafe for a light lunch on lake windermere though

4 sandwiches,( just normal egg mayo) 2 coffee's and 2 cans of pop £23 if you do go!! ask your bank manager for a nice loan.
