It may just be jealousy, of your charming, and exquisite demeanor.

I was once made redundant alongside a woman who was pregnant and she was convinced that the only reason I went was to try and cover the company's back for getting rid of her. As I was planning on going to uni soon anyway I didn't challenge it, but I found out that she did and was compensated.
I've just started a new job and I've noticed some signs of being treated differently by one of my managers on the basis of what I feel is my age. Because of this I've decided to join a union just in case it escalates and I don't know what to do if it threatens my job if I challenge it.
|
I'm getting confused (not difficult) Are you saying that you want the manager to get you pregnant then you can get made redundant and sue the firm or would you like the Union to step in.
In my experience Unions are just as bent as anyone else when cash is concerned.

Re: Have you ever been...
It could be it is a test of your metal. They set little erksome task designed to get under the skin to see how you react. Geting the job does not meen that they wont carry on testing you to see if you are the right choice. An interview qualifications and C.V. are only part of it so they carry on testing you to be sure they have made the right choice hence the 13 week breaking in period.

John most certainly isn't stupid......you don't get to be our age by being stupid.

Actually, many people do in this town just by the glory of being unemployed and having money thrown at them. You don't need qualifications, you just need a baby/disability/alcohol or drug problem and you'll be pretty much settled for life.
And don't tell me this isn't the case. I see it every day.

I think you were lucky to find such a benevolent firm, who offered you employment.
I wouldn't.

They might want to tell you that they are unemployed, they might want to tell you that they are a single parent living off benefits...because that type of person will tell anyone who will listen, but I reckon those who have been in work and been badly treated or discriminated against may not want to publicise this fact to the whole world.
Yes I see these people who don't work too, they cannot help you, as they have no experience of employment, or so little that it matters not one jot, so why mention them?

Re: Have you ever been...
I would also like to say here, that for someone who has managed to get through a University degree(which I haven't) you really should have been able to research the question you put to us, and find the answers.
I think it took me all of 10 seconds to find out what discrimination consists of and what to do about it....but then the post wasn't really intended to find out the answer to the question, it was to tell us that you are in a job, and feel you are being badly used.
You have a job...good for you.....just get on with it, develop those life skills you are going to need in the real world, the world where you have to earn your keep.

Not everyone gets shed loads of money thrown at them though. Those that do are milking the system because it lets them. I have a medical condition and still work because I can and am willing to because if I didnt I would not have independence nor be able to have a life. There are people that are out of work through no fault of their own and in some cases there is age discrimination and the "over qualified" guff thrown at them. There are people that have spent months trying to get a job writing out and sending out many C.V's in the hope of getting a job and getting no were. This is from people over the entire spectrum of job levels and have been offered nothing. You are lucky you got a job but perceive that there is something untoward going on in what is a normal in that place. Thing is going to uni might give you a piece of paper that says you can do a job but you still have to prove it first.
Hopefully some day you will realise that because if not you will be joining those out of work and possibly classed as unemployable due to the attitude you take. I have been on the receiving end and dealt with it my way and made sure I did not treat those who came after me the same as I was. This is the way that can slowly change things for the better and make you feel like you have won a small victory. There will never be an overnight solution to issues at work you just have to take it on the chin and rise above it. Just never forget what you yourself went through and accept it as the norm and start behaving like they do because as soon as that happens you are no better than them thus handing victory to them.

Re: Have you ever been...
I really don't think they would have her, she doesn't appear (from what she posts on here)to have the appropriate people skills.

Now that is where the university of life wins hands down. No ammount of paper can give you them kind of skills as it is an experience of life qualification.
