Im not a council tennant.

Id be ok if I had a carbon monoxide detector.

What other alternative heating is there that works and doesnt cost a bomb to use.

Re: Have you put your heating on yet?

Mr D - can you turn off the central heating radiators in the rooms you dont need heating?.... and INSULATE big style!
Floor to ceiling thick curtains, which get drawn a soon as light fades.
Thick door curtains behind exterior doors.
Extra loft insulation (goes without saying that one)
Sausage shaped draught excluders at the base of doors
Draughtproofing strips for doors and windows

Cavity wall insulation is expensive and when my landlord (was council) put it in last year there was one wall that they couldnt do because it had no cavity. It is the wall that is in the communal stairwell. The stairwell exterior doors are open in daylight all year round to let tenants cats come and go, so that wall was a problem - it always was cold to touch because it was conducting heat out.
I found Thermilate paint additive and used it on that wall and it no longer is cold to the touch because it now relects heat back into the room. I am so impressed with Thermilate that I have been adding it to ALL the wall paint I use when redecorating and have used it on 2 ceilings (will use it on the other ceilings too when i get the energy to do them)
Insulating Paint Additive, Insulating Paint, Paint Insulation, Energy Saving Paint

Re: Have you put your heating on yet?

My dad never used to put it on till november, even when it was freezing, he used to tell us to put a bigger jumper on. Now i have my own house and family, I always try to see how far i can go before putting the heating on. unfortunately the wife, put the heating on last week. I didnt complain as it was freezing cold

Re: Have you put your heating on yet?

I had a new gas (hot water/radiators) heating system installed in March and technically it has been 'on' ever since (even though there is an 'off' switch).
I am arthritic and am most comfortable with a constant temperature of 22C/70F day and night. There is a room thermostat so it looks after itself by not coming on when the weather is warm enough.
That's what thermostats are for for goodness sake!!!!!!

Re: Have you put your heating on yet?

I just leave ours on with the thermostat at 21 degrees, if it gets a bit airy I just flick it up on the way past. As yet it's only ever come on during the early hours of the morning and even then it's not come on full pelt.

Re: Have you put your heating on yet?

Have had ours on quite a bit this last few weeks, but only evenings. But after a couple of hours have turned it off has it's got to warm. Haven't needed it yet in the mornings.

Re: Have you put your heating on yet?

I am officially a "frozzen ******" and my feet and hands are always cold. My Dad has been staying with us for the last week and has had all the windows open !!! The storage heaters were switched back on in a couple of rooms about 3 weeks ago , albeit on low but it's nearly time for the winter quilt to make an appearance.
