Re: HBC have taken away the benches from outside the market
Perhaps that's why it's called trottin'.
Make a call, then watch property, bought with hard working peoples' taxes, trot off.
Though a flat bed truck doesn't really make a proper trot-trot sound.

Though you'd probably have to do a couple of breathalyzer tests first.
Them benches don't like no drinkers near 'em.

Better to have found out whilst it was being moved ( for whatever reason) than to have had it collapse whilst in use.
We might get some sturdy new benches and I’m sure some folk will have learned lessons along the way.

What's the lesson?
If it ain't broke, don't fix it...because there's a risk it'll get broken?
Not really a lesson in logical thinking, is it?

Re: HBC have taken away the benches from outside the market
Had an appointment in Accrington today. Came, even did some shopping.
Happily managed to keep shuffling, and didn't need a place to sit.
Mind you, the gang of eight women, I won't call them ladies, didn't need seats either.
As they created havoc, by shouting and abusing people on Broadway, for a good quarter of an hour, starting about 1.20 p.m.
They weren't kids. These were women in their twenties, and thirties.
High as a kites, and six of them openly drinking alcohol, whilst carrying out their mini-campaign of terror.
Last seen staggering up Broadway, towards Abbey Street.
They never sat once.
Though they did try to intimidate innocent people who were sat on the benches on Broadway.
By screaming in the faces of the old ladies, who had stopped to sit awhile in our town centre.

These situations just don't happen in Accrington, you're making it up. They couldn't possibly have been going to Abbey St either because there is nowhere on there thats of any use to them whatsoever.
Bit like I'm making up the fact there were 3 women ( probably 3 of your gang of 8 ) sat on an empty Market Stall at 1pm yesterday each with a can of white lightining by their sides. I specify it was white lightning just to prove I'm making it up.

Quiet right.
You've invented that little detail, purely to add credence to your lie, right?
Having a degree in art, and a very good eye for detail, I could also give a full description of each of the anti-social, nasty, heedless, drunken slatterns, just to prove I'm making it up too.
That day in April, when I was trying not to shake my charity bucket, I saw simply loads of the borough's great and good, out doing their shopping in Tesco's.
I rarely see them pushing/pulling their happy shoppers round the town centre.
Unless that's rubbish too, and another made up fib.

Re: HBC have taken away the benches from outside the market
I've just had a cracking idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Given the cop's reluctance to take down the tents outside St Pauls and the tents in Trafalgar Square, why doesn't Rindy go and stick his tent up outside the market hall? The cops can't move him on.After all, they didn't move on the dross and Rindy is a respected member of the community. LancsDave could send him down some buttys every day and I promise to bring him a Turkey leg on Christmas Day. Others could bring him a few pints from Wetherspoons - not very nice, I know, but better than nowt.
Go for it, Rindy!
ps...you might even get a Christmas card from Ken & Graham.

One determined old bat from Ossy, with a taste for dressing up, and living in a tent, as a form of protest, might be one too many.
Although...

Re: HBC have taken away the benches from outside the market
Wonderful life-story and what a character. A rebel with a cause ...
As a Member of Parliament in her fifties looking backwards to the 1920s and considering the social conditions of the times and the circumstances of her own life she did not see in all honesty what else she could have done other than rebel: "... in sympathy with the spirit of those years I was possessed by a frenzy for change; and since a change, any change, could hardly be for the worse, it must inevitably be for the better."
Wonder if she was a fan of Lawrence of Arabia - the film came out in the 60's.

Ossy seems to be a bit of a breeding ground for "characters" John!
