Hbc.......id

I got a letter the other day, because I have a claim at the Housing department they told me they were sending someone around today to check I am who I am and not a false claim.
I don't know about you but to me that seems silly, surely a check would be better if they turn up without prior knowledge? If I'm not who I claim to be they have more chance of catching me out?
Anyway a bloke from the council turned up today and asked for I.D. so I showed him my passport, "That's no good", he said, "there are no stamps in it it has never been used".
"It's a valid passport", I told him, "it has my picture and it has been used, I went to Rotterdam earlier this year and it doesn't have to be stamped either coming or going to there". After a lot of erming and ooing from him he finally allowed the fact that my passport was valid and decided that I am who I think I am.
So although I might not like the face that I shave every morning at least now thanks to the councils help I do at least know it's mine!

Me neither I've got the 10 o'clock shaddow by 9.30am

Seriously, what a stupid reason to question your ID, I don't think there's may passport controls that actually stamp passports anymore

Re: Hbc.......id

I think the issue of ID has become ridiculous. for example my nephew has just turned 16 and his mum is trying to get him an account for his LMA grant to be paid into.. she went with him to Llyods with his passport and birth certificate and was told he also needed a current utility bill or driving license ! at 16?

Fantastic, you can get your passport checked at home by a jumped up HBC official. He's in the wrong job, he should be working for immigration.

EU tend to not stamp them, outside that they tend to do. Croatia stamped ours this year, I've also been stamped in Mexico, Dom Republic & Tunisia

Question Re: Hbc.......id

There are many people who do not have any photo ID like a passport or a driving license. Some people don’t even have a bank account. I wonder how one of those would have got on? What if someone had just moved into a new home, no photo ID, no bills for that address.

It seems to me that this is yet another example of bureaucracy gone mad or is it another ploy to help make the case for National ID Cards?

Not a ploy, just a good reason why we should have ID cards.

Re: Hbc.......id

This thread now gives me something to look forward to, instead of the usual load of flyers and bills, a letter from the council saying I'm going to get a visit.

Plan 'A' was going to be, can I just have your badge while I check your I.D. by ringing the council.

But I have decided on plan 'B' can I have your badge while I check your I.D.

Then leaving him on the doorstep, (I do hope it's raining), I will email the council with the scanned in I.D. card and until they reply he doesn't get his badge back! (I hope he brings a tent and sleeping bag it sometimes takes them days to reply).

Did I tell you my scanner isn't at the moment set up and I'll have to set up the software, but with bogus callers these days we just can't be too careful!

What's wrong with sending your message by carrier pigeon?
