Exclamation Help Re Speed Cameras

Today driving down the A666 between Farnworth and The M60 I spotted a camera on the bridge in the back of a hire van!!!! No Markings on it except the hire company who owned the van. Can anyone tell me if this is legal?????? As i thought they had to be clearly marked?

If you were not breaking the law and speeding, then you have nothing to worry about have you? So why ask the question?

Re: Help Re Speed Cameras

Apparently yes if it's advertised on local radio and local press, there should also be a local website giving locations for that day. Unless you were going over 10 miles an hour over it's doubtfull that you'll hear unless it was in a 30 or 40 zone, then they clamp down. I've known people get a ticket for doing 31, although If I did i'd contest that.

Are you sure it wasn't a traffic survey van

Red face Re: Help Re Speed Cameras

It is not necessary to advertise the fact that a speed camera is about if it is mobile or even hand held.

Re: Help Re Speed Cameras

no it's not but they shouldn't be hidden, and they're getting around it being in a plain van by saying it's location is publicised, therfore not hidden.

Re: Help Re Speed Cameras

www.pepipoo.co.uk may help you.

As for being done for 31, not allowed as speedos are allowed 10% inaccuracy. In reality they work on 10%+2 so you are looking at 35 in a 30 zone before they will do you.

There is something that there must be a sign within 1km of teh van warning you and usually there is a temporary sign that they leave in teh back of teh van. This is meant to be placed 100m before the van.

However, in order to try and get off through one of these loopholes you have to take it to court. If you lose you get far more than £60/3pts for wasting the courts time.

Re: Help Re Speed Cameras

Thats what I thought entwisi but one of the drivers got done at 31 in wales another at 32 and then 34 in rugby. I would have contested them if it were me. It's impossible to prove in my opinion with th inaccuracy. Makes me wonder if they were telling porkies and were really 36 in a 30 but didn't want to admit it.

Re: Help Re Speed Cameras

Weird. Was driving down the M65 and saw signs for A666 and I thought it was strange (being the devil number and all) because i've been past there I don't know how many times and i've never seen the A666 sign!

I got kinda paranoid

Your safe, in a 50 zone you will have to be doing at least 57mph before you will get a fine, as Enty said earlier it has to be 10% of the speed limit + 2mph
30 = 35
40 = 46
50 = 57
60 = 68
70 = 79
80 forget it - you already getting done
100+ courts CAN give an instant ban, usually 2 week but can go up depending on the amount over the speed limit
Hand held guns have to be calibrated by the operator before every days use, if you can prove this hasn't been done they cannot fine you, they do keep records of this.

Re: Help Re Speed Cameras

Just because it's a speed van doesn't mean it's exemp from parking restrictions. There was one in knutsford last year parked right on a junction, that was illegal.
I got done and taken to court for using my phone whilst driving, and I see coppers down here ding it all the time, it was an apple last week. I got a 200 quid fine for that.
