Re: Hidden identity.

What worries me as much as anything is, how clear is your vision when you're wrapped round like that? I do have some objections to this form of dress - if I go to Saudi, I have to conform to strict dress codes, so I can't wear what I want. Also in Saudi, women are not allowed to drive. At all. I do think that there is a case for insisting, if women want to be able to drive, they should conform to the UK dress code and leave the rest at home. Who was is said that you can't have everything?

Re: Hidden identity.

Two very interesting points there from Rindy and Pendy. How can you identify someone in a photograph if only their eyes are showing? Do they have passport photos with only their eyes showing? Also I know that if I have my hood up on my coat when the weather is grim then I am more limited in what I can see and that's not as covering so can they really drive safely? Apart from restricted vision does it not also restrict their movement?

You know the funny thing when we were in Tunisia we only saw one woman dressed in the full covering outfit and she was a British tourist!

Re: Hidden identity.

I posted this originally not to stir up anti-Islamic feeling, but mainly because it looked so funny as she came round the corner towards us, specs peering through the slit of the headdress, face pressed towards the windsceen. It was only after that I thought about how women that wear full Muslim dress prove their identity for offical needs like passports or driving tests.

Re: Hidden identity.

Don't get me wrong, I have no objection to people wearing what they want, within reason. It is when such clothing interferes with vision or with movement that it becomes a problem.

There is also the question of identification - get caught by a speed camera - who is driving? Even worse, cause an accident, drive away - who can identify who was behind the wheel? I rather doubt whether it is strictly legal to drive wearing the full monty.

I agree with Pendy, there's a safety issue here. I also wonder how the different cultural aspect is reconciled - drive a car freely around the country but cover your face while you do so. Maybe it's just me but I find it illogical.
