Horse meat has been found in meat processing plants in both the Republic of Ireland and North Yorkshire, my first thoughts were Neigh

In some case horse meat is 25% Tesco and Iceland have both been effected by this and have recalled all the products, the processing plants involved Silvercrest foods in Ireland and Dalepak Hambleton in North Yorkshire

While I can understand concern about how the horsemeat got into the burgers in a plant where no horsemeat is processed, I think folks should stop being squeamish about eating it. We eat cows, pigs, sheep, chickens, rabbits, goats, deer, even kangaroo, emu and ostrich in some fancy restaurants. So why not horse? The French have no such scruples... Let's get the bit between our teeth and try it!

(Gallops off to think of some more horrendous puns...)

Sure do Flashy. Their cuisine is reckoned to be better than French by some people.

I am really surprised that Iceland products have been affected...their QC is really hot on mixed species meat....I know because my daughter was head of QC at a local firm. They supplied Iceland with some products, and their QC found the product to be a 'mixed species' meat. Daughter had to go down to their headquarters and explain how it had happened, and what measures were to be used to prevent the situation from happening again.

I guess it isn't the fact that the burgers contained horsemeat that is the problem, but that products were not labelled appropriately.
Horsemeat is lean, high in protein and nutritious...it is just that some people may not want to eat horse under the guise of beef.

So who had a nagging suspicion about Dobbin burgers ?

I know the Germans also eat horse meat, there's a butchers down in Osnabruck (nearest major City to us) that deals with it.

Did they have starters ? A few Horse devours maybe ?

And I bet it's a racing certainty they'll come across a few hurdles while on the national hunt for answers.

Just a thought, are they sure the stuff in Iceland was Horse & not Pony ?

Tesco will be prosecuted under the Trades Description Act.

The burgers are supposed to be Shergar free.

Don't keep making an ass of yourself, we've no reason to think this meat is rotten or foal.
