It's the spices that make them hot, after all the fasting and plain food you've endured through Lent.

No, the cross is usually marzipan, or even just an indentation.

The spices are added to the dough.

Neil, have you never eaten an uncooked chilli? It's taste is described as hot.

Re: hot x buns

This is on a par with the Headmistress in Tower Hamlets who turned down a free visit for the school to a performance of Romeo and Juliet by the Royal Shakespeare Company. Her reason - it celebrated heterosexual love!

We are now having to realise that tolerance only works one way - in favour of those who see themselves (whether genuinely or not) as a minority, of whatever sort. Obviously, all national customs and traditions are the province of the majority, therefore no tolerance need be shown to them.

I'm only afraid that we'll wake up too late to what's happening, and find that our heritage has been completely trashed in the name of political correctness.

Get behind me Satan !! Whoops not appropriate saying that.
Once upon a time, when I was at home with first child, used to make jam tarts (as me Mum did). Left over pastry from the cases, was rolled out into a long-snake like shape and used to twist and put a cross on top of same tart just to decorate like. Better not make them any more, might get raided at dawn
