Houses In Church Empty
Does anyone know why the houses near the Commercial are empty, went past today and most of the red brick houses seemed to be boarded up, are they due for demolision or something.
Surely these could be put to good use.
How long have these been up? must only be about 20 year

Re: Houses In Church Empty
if they are council owned the council will have most likely re-located the tennants and boarded them up so they are ready to sell to a housing agency like they did up huncoat
soon the council wil be having to pay around £90 per week rent so expect a rise in your council tax soon
thats if they re council owned and been sold of course

Re: Houses In Church Empty
They are scheduled to be demolished. Another fine example of town planning by the half-wits at HBC. The real laugh is that we are probably still paying off the loan for the cost of constructing them in the first place.

Re: Houses In Church Empty
Probably part of the Project Phoenix Plan. Regenerating the gateway into Accrington or some other bumf like that.
Or may be they're planning on knocking them down and instead of building a gateway they're building a barricade. That way if no one comes into Accrington no one can see what a sh~th0le it is.

"HBC 30 years of service to the community" It has a sort of hollow ring about it doesn't it?

Re: Houses In Church Empty
Well, the bureaurats have been awfully quiet over the last few weeks on the subject of the panopticon, so they are obviously up to summat; don't be surprised by an announcment on election day ( good day to bury bad news) that the thing goes ahead.
As for the houses by the canal, then yep - they're coming down. But only the ones facing the canal at the top end of Maden Street. The road there is also due to be altered and the pub/warehouse saved and integrated into the waterside scheme. Or at least that is the plan for this Yuppie development. In reality the usual story will apply...the council, having forked out x amount of dosh on consultancy fees will find theres nowt left in the kitty to go ahead and build.

Re: Houses In Church Empty
We really, really, need a waterside scheme. Obviously. Then all the people who don't have homes to live in can come and admire it - perhaps we could have a small area (well fenced off, of course) where they could put their cardboard boxes.

Re: Houses In Church Empty
Mick & I were in our office today, (the lounge bar at the Stag), we got talking about these houses, we and several others are on benefits and renting private housing in the area, we are middle age+ a bit. We went for a quick look at these houses, they are far superior to the places we are living in, instead of just knocking these places down why can't they look for like minded people to ourselves that would be prepared to move in and form a community that would enjoy the modern facilities that are obviously on offer in comparison to the places that we are already living in?
One of my main problems so far as claiming my rent for example is that because the house I am renting is a gable end, the council think the house is too large for a single person, therefore they won't pay the full rent.
Surely if something could be arranged so far as these houses are concerned instead of the waste of knocking down newer houses that have a better building standard than the old terraced houses wouldn't it be a benifit to the community and people like us?

Re: Houses In Church Empty
heres the truth!there are 19 houses being demolished so the land can be sold to a developer who can build some fancy houses on it to overlook the canal instead of the council houses that was there and when they have done the waterfront up you can buy one for 200 grand, making the developer a handsome profit.its not all that long ago when the council refused permission to turn the old wharf into flats and a conference centre! so why the big turn around you ask.....well thats because blythes are not making the dangerous stuff they used to that is what i am led to believe.
