Re: How do you judge people?
It's interesting. When you're on a forum, you tend to have much more extreme views, and things seem more black and white, hence if you disagree with someone its usually to a large degree.
When I first started I had certain impressions of people, especially Gayle because she was fighting to become a councilor for the Labour party, where as I was quite Conservative thinking at the time. I basicly expected her to be an evil ogre, not the nice person I met in Oakhill Park. Haha.
Another person I'd make judgments on is Jambutty, we've had such major disagreements at times, so much so that I've even turned to childish name calling at one point. Now im pretty sure if I met him in the flesh, we'd agree on so so much, and we'd have a understanding between us. Of course, I would like to meet Jambutty at some stage, because of the interesting debates we have had here, and really because even though I don't believe hes right all the time, I still have a lot of respect for him because his arguments are usually founded upon solid ground, even if I think the judgment is wrong sometimes.
It really is quite funny how different people can be on a forum as opposed to in person. Then again, im probably personally the same in person as on here, but im sure the people I met at the meet could give an opinion on that.

Without wanting to appear patronising Len, you went out of your way to sort a thread out for me that had unfairly robbed me of posts by being moved, and restored them for me, as for your avitar I dare not comment on it as I may unwittingly appear offensive.

Re: How do you judge people?
Thanks Cyfr, I think
I love the debate threads, I don't post on all of them if I don't have an opinion or enough information to do so, but I do find them interesting.
I'm a bit like that in real life, I love a good debate, can get quite heated and cross with people but at the end of the evening would never leave angry.
The only time I don't like it is when it gets into personal attacks and I've been on the end of a few of them - they upset me. You can attack my views, disagree with me endlessly but call me names and I do take them personally.
When I first came on I had a big row with Tealeaf and Less and it left me in tears, really upset me because I took it personally, mostly because it was an attacking thread that had my name in the title - pretty much gonna take that personal I think. Since then though, I've met Less and we get along fine now. We actually have similar senses of humour, not that most people would think so from my posts on here, so we're ok now.
What I do find interesting though is working out relationships with other members. For instance, there are a few members on here that know each other and it's interesting when new members plough in to work out how or who they know.

You are spot on there Gayle, and before you hit the button I owe you an apology on B and P I will post it, it is as you say a clash of like personalities sometimes. But naming members in headline titles of a thread is insulting and definitly in my book not on, regards Ian.

Re: How do you judge people?
I agree with you both that personal insults of other members is just not acceptable. Disagree with a point of view by all means but always remember that everyone is entitled to their own opinion ....................... even if it's wrong

Re: How do you judge people?
Well said cyfr! I've to be in a few tiffs and it can get quite upsetting.
Must admit I enjoy watching some of the word battles that go on. There are a few sharp-tongued individuals that can make a good riff that much more enjoyable.
Also appreciate the peace makers that try to bring the family-feuds back to the kissing and making up stage!
Brian

Don't put it in your car Gayle, the singing ringing tree thread on Burnley and Pendle where I said you and your office should be placed on the highest point of the Coppice as Accringtons Panoptecan, without gas and electricity, I was out of order for mentioning your name.
SORRY.
