How far do you walk each day
They say that you should do 10,000 steps each day to keep fit - is that easier said than done. Do you find it far too easy to hop into the car or do you like a long trek - let's see how energetic we all are when we're not glued to the computer.

Re: How far do you walk each day
I feel like I walked 10,000 steps at work today, then I had a walk (spy) around Oak Hill Park this afternoon. I walk the kids to and from school (shift dependant) because it is easier than the car. I work in Preston so that has to be the car. It's a shame my phone doesn't have one of those pedometer thingies.

Re: How far do you walk each day
Although I passed my driving test when I was seventeen I didn't get my first car until I was thirty nine. For seventeen years in London I walked miles every day, as it was much quicker than sitting on a bus in traffic.
Now I walk to my car and drive into the countryside for exercise.

Re: How far do you walk each day
I don’t do a lot of walking during the working week, but I like to head for the Lakes at the weekends. On an average Sunday Fell walk I’ll do around 7 or 8 miles which will normally include a least two peaks above 2500 feet.
Gayle why don’t you organise a walk around rural Hyndburn between Boxing Day and New Year. We could do a closed loop starting at the Boers Head out towards Church, up Ossy, back over Green Howarth, Fern Gore and down to the Nag’s Head if open on time and back up Burnley Road. Fancy it for a bit of exercise…….

Re: How far do you walk each day
I purposely park as far away from my desk as possible at work. Its 1000 steps from teh car to my desk(Yes, I counted them once). I do this journey 6 times a day. Then on top of that I walk to numerous meetings around the site. I reckon all in a probably do ~7-8K steps a day

Re: How far do you walk each day
hmmm... my desk is approx 3 steps from my bed... The supermarket is about 100 steps from our house, the metro is about 120 steps from our house, everything in moscow is about 100 steps from a metro station. I'm not doing very well here at all!

Re: How far do you walk each day
I try and visit the gym twice a week, using the tread mill and cross machines for at least 30mins. Summer is golf, again at least twice a week sometimes more. Hill walking, shame have not done any for several months.

Re: How far do you walk each day
I like good long walk, even more so in the middle of winter when wrapped up (so long as it is not raining, I hate the rain). In any case having two dogs means I have to do a lot whether I want to or not!

Re: How far do you walk each day
Well some days I do and some days I don't. It depends on whether I have to go out or not. Unless you count walking round the house. If I'm shopping I walk into town and around town but get the bus back because it's all uphill and that's no joke with bags. If I'm in a hurry I get the bus down too. It depends on how much time I have.
When I worked, depending on where I was based, I walked there and back most days unless there was deep snow which would slow me down too much. Church and Clayton were walking distance. Rishton I got the bus to Clayton and walked from there. Haslingden I would sometimes walk home but never walk there.

Re: How far do you walk each day
I walk the dog every day and I do walk miles at work. I tend to walk into town, it's not far enough away to take the car or bus. I used to walk frequently in the Lakes also, but haven't been up there for a while.
I think it is so funny when people drive their cars to the gym, then pay to spend half an hour walking on a treadmill. Why don't they just go for a walk for half an hour, it's free.......
