Re: How far would you go to escape??

Stopped in a very small hotel in Turkey a few years back and there was a family from Spring Hill (I'm from Accrington). Gran Canaria a couple of years ago a barman came from Accrington. Going back 23 years ago was queing up in Disneyland, Califonia when someone tapped me on the shoulder and said Hi, i served him every week in Asda. Even cannier than that for three years on the trot when the family and i went to Corfu, Tunisia and Bulgaria there was the same family from Ireland each time. (No pre-arrangements made) Now we just arrange to meet them a couple of times a year.

Small world or what?

I was at Ayers Rock (Uluru) and was tapped on the shoulder by a lady from Garden St in Accrington........I was on the Brisbane River and met a chap who also lived in Accrington. He recognised my accent when I was talking to my sister.

Re: How far would you go to escape??

When I became a school governor in Battersea (years ago) the girl who was the Chair of Governors was from Accy - her parents kept the Hyndburn Inn. We had never met before then, but knew lots of the same people. She was at the High School with a friend of mine, and then worked with his father at the DHSS!

My most amazing one was when I took a friend who had recently moved from Chester to London to show her the sights. We called at the riding stables where my daughter used to ride (run by an Australian). Just as we were about to leave, the owner Ross Nye and his wife Ruth turned up. We chatted, and I asked her how their daughters were. Ruth said that the younger one, Lisa, was now a Registrar in Paediatrics at Treliske Hospital in Truro, and that they had just come back from seeing her. I said that my cousin, Margaret Chambers, was senior sister in Paeds at Truro. Ruth said "I sat next to her at dinner last night!" - so you see, an Australian, living in London and visiting Cornwall, sits next to my cousin from Ossy ..... very small world!
