Yeah, they could well be. They've only been added to Google maps/earth recently though. So probably just the best satellite photos they've managed to acquire so far with a lot of detail and no clouds (not an easy prospect given our climate!! hehe). I know my car's on the photos of my house and I've only had it 3 years, but I know in Blackburn Centre the Barbara Castle Way extension isn't there or even being built, so that part must be really old...
I did come up with a plan for Google manipulation though. Work out how often they update photos, cross-reference this with a satellite tracker to work out which satellite actually takes the photos and thus calculate the time and date that the next photo is likely to be taken, then go out into a nice big open space like a park with a massive banner with a message on it so you zoom in from space and see it!!! aaah, the joy of social deviance
