Huncoat Station

There is an article in todays Lancashire Telegraph about a man who collects railway stuff. There is a picture of garage with a Huncoat Station sign and it brought to mind Huncoat station that I remember as a child. I lived in Hapton and would visit my Granny who lived in Walter Street Huncoat most weekends. Do any of you remember Gerry who was the porter at Huncoat ? He was a little man and it used to tickle me when he would be lighting the gas lamps on the when we were waiting on the platform for the train home in an evening. The pole he used must have been twice his height. My dad used to tell a story of some passengers getting annoyed with him one day and they picked him up and stuck him on the wooden fence with the fence up his waistcoat. He was there for a while before someone took pity on him and lifted him off.

I think the Huncoat sign on the garage and other railway memorbelia is on the left of Padiham by pass coming from Nelson, Somewhere around Higham. I see it regularly to this day.
