Re: Hyndburn Dog Dirt Centre
I agree with you Tealeaf, its absolutely disgusting, I know there are a lot of responsible dog owners, but I think there are more who just leave it, the pavements around Accrington are also disgusting, these people cant even be bothered to take their dogs to the side of the road.

Re: Hyndburn Dog Dirt Centre
Can I also register my disgust and outright fury at this phenomena. Whilst walking my five-year old to and from school I find it hard to listen properly to what he is saying as I am constantly looking for the foul menace and interupting him with cries of "Watch out...oops, some more over there!" It's a two-minute walk and I once counted between 20-30 'accident blackspots'!
Whilst many dog owners are responsible the blame lies at the feet (quite literally!) of the owners. I fear there is a NIMBY mentality going on with such people - if it was on their street then they wouldn't like it either. Along with people shouting and argueing in residential areas in the small hours, idle litter bugs, parents who cant be bothered to keep an eye on their children and let them cause annoyance in other areas with their juvenile anti-social behavior etc. etc. it all comes from two common factors - Sheer Pig Ignorance and Pure Selfishness. Many of us abide by the notion of 'thinking about other people' - yet there is a group of people from all walks of life who believe that the 'rules' are there for others to live by and that they are in some way exempt.

Re: Hyndburn Dog Dirt Centre
One solution would surely be a "Pooper Scooper Catapult", accurate to within say 25 yards......basically, you see some dog owner letting their dog do it's business...let them move away, run up to the site of the crime, scoop up the offending material, then fire away..PING! Right at the back of their head....
What can they do about it? Afterall, you're simply returning something that's rightfully their's.....and they can't exactly complain to the cops, can they...maximum fine a thousand quid. No one gets hurt, either.
I think I'll pop into the patent office on the way to the train tomorrow.

Re: Hyndburn Dog Dirt Centre
The thing is if you confront someone about it then they either look at you like you're asking something unreasonable of them, or if they are the shorthaired, white-socks over cheap tracky bottom brigade with killer Staff or Rottweiler in tow (not on a leash of course) then you are likely to get your head kicked in....when I saw someone blatantly tossing litter onto the street (usually when there is a bin some 10 yards away) I used to pick it up and hand it to them saying "I think you dropped something mate" in an effort to shame them into disposing with it in the correct manner - I usually just got a gobful of abuse so I don't bother now.

Re: Hyndburn Dog Dirt Centre
Lettie has one of those killer crossbreeds - it's a mean looking machine. But she uses a pooper scooper, or so she says......

Re: Hyndburn Dog Dirt Centre
I don't have a pooper scooper, I use a carrier bag, and yes I always pick up. Tealeaf, will you please empty some of your messages from your inbox, I'm trying to reply to the one you sent me.

Re: Hyndburn Dog Dirt Centre
That's the problem with generalisations isn't it - Wasn't trying to tar all Staff/Rott owners with the same brush. You know the sort of owners I mean though . There's nothing wrong with those breeds of dogs - it's the people who own them (some people!) that kick em around so they have a mean disposition. I actually really like Staff temperament.

Re: Hyndburn Dog Dirt Centre
I didn't think you were generalising for a minute Cee. I know the type of owners you mean as there seems to be plenty of them around. My doggy photo can be viewed in the funny photos section under pets.. She is a crossbreed of English Bull and Staff. She has a fantastic temperament with people, and is spoiled rotten. Unfortunately, due to being attacked as a young dog, by 2 dogs of the aforementioned type of owners, she is very wary of other dogs, and will fight when provoked by them. She loves cats though.

Re: Hyndburn Dog Dirt Centre
Its a crime that such people own these lovable dogs then give them an attitude just to appease their pathetic, sagging egos.
Whilst on the subject (and I know its an old one) why don't you see white dog crap anymore - something to do with dog diet? Any canine fecal experts out there?!

Re: Hyndburn Dog Dirt Centre
The guy who used to go around painting it white, was laid off by the council in the last round of cuts. They hope to reinstate him when you are joined up with Blackburn and Darwin.

Re: Hyndburn Dog Dirt Centre
White dog poo is to do with diet. Dogs tend to be fed tinned or biscuit type foods now. Convenience food for dogs. I remember my neighbours dog as a kid. He was always gnawing on bones , scraps of fresh meat etc. Don't think he was ever fed tinned food. He had white poo after eating bones. Not only do we feed ourselves and our kids processed convenience Mc Rubbish food, but we also give it to our pets..
