Your opinion means nothing.

That's not what I was saying. In fact I was trying to say the opposite. We should all give a toss about what happpens to our towns and I find people's apathy quite hard to comprehend. There are a handful of people on here who are getting quite revved up about this issue now and I think that's great,at least they care and they want their voices heard. Our opinions do matter and you shouldn't think that they don't.

There is a similar one that might also work: A politician uses statistics like a drunk uses a lamp post, more for support than illumination.

Re: Hyndburn to be axed.
If you want to get a petition up and stand in accy town centre - you will need to apply to the council for permission as they 'own' broadway. Arndale centre you have to apply for permission to the owners of the arndale. Then you will have to get volunteers to stand there and ask for signatures and nice weather!!!

We do, the people who live in the borough who will have to fund it, at the expense of other much needed services.
Are you just bitter because Darwen's just classed as Blackburn's back water?

Re: Hyndburn to be axed.
A petition isn't the way to go, a referendum is needed, and full and honest accounting of the costs need to be made public.
It could have been done cheaply and efficently at the last election...except the Conservative's chose not to mention it. Strange that.

Re: Hyndburn to be axed.
But how could we get a referendum? That would have to be instigated by the council surely?

If I remember correctly Willow, Greg Pope suggested that we have it at the same time as next year's local elections, and by then would have had a 'proper' debate and would be financially viable .. two in one sort of, at the polling stations.

Re: Hyndburn to be axed.
Does that mean that we will have one though or will it be all over and done and dusted by then? Well, partially done if the vehicles are going to be dealt with as and when appropriate.

Mmmmm .. interesting .. suggests to me that, between the lines procrastination could be the strategy, (PB seems frenetic to get a decision quickly) and whoops if a vehicle has to be replaced in the meantime, the council would have no choice but to put Hyndburn on the bodywork.
Suppose public opinion would only instigate a referendum ? Seems to have the support of our MP though, even though nowt really to do with him... but feel he is just trying to be fair to all sides of the fence.

Re: Hyndburn to be axed.
I don't think a petition is a bad thing by the way, it could help garner good publicity to counteract Britcliffe's assumed fait accompli.

Re: Hyndburn to be axed.
According to this week's Accrington Obsever we'll never be a Royal Borough!!
Our Mayor, Cllr. Dobson, went to London, and was introduced to His Royal Highness the Duke of Kent.
'Who are you?'
'I'm the Mayor of Hyndburn.'
'Where?'
It's just as we said earlier in the thread, the only people this is a problem for are people that represent us on the council. All of us would have simply replied that we were from the relevant town within the borough.
Just a note to His Royal Highness-
Sir, the next time you are popping up to Accy Market for some black puddings, or some tea towels from Ossy Mills, you only need to put the postcode in your Royal sat-nav, and not the name Hyndburn. Easy.

Re: Hyndburn to be axed.
P.S. After all the 'improvememts' implemented by the council, the market may not be worth a visit.

That freeloading silver-spooner couldn't find his backside without a manservant, he certainly won't know what a 'sat-nav' is.

Re: Hyndburn to be axed.
I noticed the headlines about royal support for the name change. Talk about an exaggeration!

Observer trying to spin again Garinda A polite Mayor would have answered "Hyndburn, which emcompasses Accrington, Oswaldtwistle, blah, blah" but no, he has to wait for the pregnant pause waiting for the, no doubt embarrassed, Duke to enquire "Where?", much to Mr. Dobson's delight I am sure, so that he can report back to Mr. Britcliffe, and then, in turn, would have immediately rung the Observer !
I'm sure the Duke will have gone on to ask a little more about us ... but oh no ! that does not suit Mr. Dobson to tell us.
Re. the University Challenge question, the Observer states that the students were asked where the Haworth Art Gallery was .. not the case, think the question was where is the Tiffany Glass collection housed. They would have known or not !! Even thought they blanked on the clue Hyndburn, may not have got the answer anyway .. would possibly have said Great Harwood !!
Such clever journalism ... not.
