Also I have just had a look at Accrington Observer online and there is a poll about the name change, it is currently showing 60% to keep the name Hyndburn 40% for the name Accrington and District.
That is a poor yardstick, open to anyone, not just residents.

The six days I sat in the Market Hall, stuffing 'No' forms in the suggestion box, may have queered that poll too.

I had to smile at this post, I had this vision of you with this big pile of voting slips, marking 'No' on them all.

I might have looked a pretty picture whilst doing it, but it was certainly no vision.

Ok, it wasn't a full six days.

I often say that I'm the MP for Accrington to people from London, not because I'm ashamed of the other towns (I'm an 'Arroder!) but simply because no-one has heard of Hyndburn. Giving boroughs names that weren't places was common in the 1970s but I think it's time to move on now.
May I remind you H******ners that your own MP thinks that changing to Accrington is a good idea!

The Member of Parliament who represents, and will carry on representing Hyndburn, electorate willing.

It did not help in the local election

Anyway what is a queer poll?

A queered poll is one open to abuse, and one that could give a false conclusion.

Just like the Observer's, and the one in the Market Hall, could.

It proves that it's a legitimate and reasonable point of view, whether you personally agree with it or not. When I expressed exactly the same view, you told me that it was "outrageous".

Re: Hyndburn to be axed.

But it doesn't make it any more right, so I was just wondering why you brought it up again.

I think you'll also find that he suggested a referendum as well.

Re: Hyndburn to be axed.

On this issue Greg Pope's opinion is as valued as any other person's who lives in the borough, and who will have to pay for the proposed name change. No more, no less.

Re: Hyndburn to be axed.

Also, as stated earlier, Greg Pope, Peter Britcliffe and the Mayor, are the only people who may have to use the name at a national level, because they represent Hyndburn.

The rest of us that live here, never have to explain where Hyndburn is, simply because we never use the name. Simple.

I'm not saying it does, but when I proposed it, you tried to make out that it was absolutely beyond the pail and that you couldn't possibly do it.

Here is an experienced politician and parliamentarian who represents this area and he has suggested exactly the same thing. Whether you agree with it or not, it is a legitimate point of view and is not so "outrageous" as you make out.
