Hyndburnlife - a lifeless waste?

For the want of something better to do - and because I am nosey - I have just had a look at the Hyndburnlife site. It would appear from the discussion board that all life in Hyndburn has petered out and become extinct, the last message posted there was on the 9th of March. Considering the hoo-hah surrounding it's launch and the amount of public money spent on it, is it not now time to ask awkward and embarrasing questions?

That would make a good headline in the Obo':-

No News on Hyndburnlite
Shock Horror
It has been reported by one of our more avid readers Mr. A-B after he accidently clicked on the hyndburnlite website in his so called FAVOURITES menu that there is nothing of value to report since the 9th of March. A spokesperson for HBC commented, "we don't see anything wrong with this it shows that no money has been wasted & that the site is very popular, after all we are talking about March this year, we will monitor the situation and if nothing changes by this time next year drastic action will be ignored.".

They'll probably argue that the website is more than the mere message board and that it provides information regarding the whole of Hyndburn. Unfortunately on further investigation much of that seems to be inaccurate too. How much did the thing cost?

Re: Hyndburnlife - a lifeless waste?

Looking at the Hyndburn BC website they seem to be transferring everything over to Hyndburnlife and they're throwing even more money at that site by employing a new bod to run it.

What a fantastic write-up they did for Accys Victorian Market! Let me show you what it says.... WELL, What do you think, brilliant yes?

(for those that are not able to get into Hynburnlife, on clicking their market link, you get loads of....nothing!!!) I'm sure that someone will eventually get round to saying SOMETHING about our market?

Maybe they could sell it off as an asset - they're selling everything else! Shall we start the bidding at £1????

Re: Hyndburnlife - a lifeless waste?

As with a lot of websites, what they cost is not representative of their true worth. Most of the best sites I visit started off as hobby sites and have grown through being valued and used by its visitors. It is a shame that the goverment and local councils employ people who think that they only have to put a site up for people to want to visit it. The major problem is that the people who have a clue would not want the job.

In my career I see a lot of very gifted technical people who are forced into management roles in order to get the promotions. I was enlightened by a friend who pointed out, 'Big Business promotes people to a level of incompetance'. i.e. when you are good at a job you get a promotion and this repeats untill you are no longer good at the job. How this is good for the company I fail to see.

Just to let you all know (and it's absolutely nothing to do with me whatsoever), I think they're doing another marketing push for the Hyndburn Life website. I received a new leaflet in with a community newsletter that I receive.
