Re: Hyndburn's Honeys.
Hardly think it deserved to be the headline 'news' story.
It was a competition, run by the paper, with a closing date. There would inevitably be a winner. Big suprise.
More and more the quality of the paper matches it's tabloid format.
I fear I'm turning into someone who remembers everything as being better in 'the old days'.
In the case of the Observer I think that is justified.

Thought was really strange myself Garinda .. front page !! sharing with the X-Factor girl ?? She is prettier than the Hyndburn Honey winner who in her latex pink top flattens any sort of shape she may be hiding there. Bitchy ? Yes, maybe .. but I am old enough not to have any sort of jealousy, anyway, they set themselves up for comment about their body just by entering.
Was very surprised at his winner ... maybe she has been handing out a bit of extra beer in those pints she serves.

A guy at work bought 400 Observers to vote for his kid and still only came second.

Re: Hyndburn's Honeys.
Know of someone who got votes for baby comp from not only family and friends, but a whole brownie troop and her place of employment and hubbies.
What is the point? The results don't mean anything do they?
And baby comps are one of my real dislikes. They irritate me. Why do people want to vote on how cute a baby is, we all think our own are the best anyway. It's starting the looks = success thing early on aint it?

I'm talking about the baby competition and yes he paid £200 to help his child win along with all his friends and family doing their bit too.

Re: Hyndburn's Honeys.
Point is Panther, these competitions mean nothing.
Ok she's pretty, but there were other girls prettier in most peoples estimations, including mine.
Getting people to vote for you , place of work, family, friends, social groups, etc, means absolutely nothing. It's just silly. Might get a week's publicity, but nowt else.
The person I quoted, her baby won a couple of years ago, but what does it mean...zilch!

Re: Hyndburn's Honeys.
Just had a look at the woman who won in the Observer and I am quite shocked she won as she isn't particularly good looking at all, and the comments suggesting she isn't a barbie seem particularly odd as she wearing some pink lycra thing and has bleached blonde hair. To me that screams Barbie/Mutton dressed as lamb.
Maybe the standards of the local men are just low. Either that or they thought it'd be a laugh to pick the ugliest. Funnily enough I said the same thing to my mum when I was in the co-op, but I decided against the hard task of picking the most fake and tacky out of the bunch.
Ah I'm such a scrooge. Bah humbug.
