Got home today and found sign on house for sale by auction. Checked the auctioneers website and it seems the house is being sold as Vacant Freehold House.

Do you reckon the landlord is trying to tell us something

That happened to me many years ago.

We had just moved into a rented house. The day after someone came from the estate agents with a key to measure it up.

you need to contact teh auctioneer and inform him of your contract. YOU DO HAVE A CONTRACT!!!

Yes I do, going to ring them tomorrow.

Does anyone know what happens to the contract if it's sold. The auction is on 29th March and we have a contract until May 10th.

No it's a company in Manchester. The directors are Irish.

Basically I have peed them off because I carried out my threat to report them to the HSE for not doing the gas safety checks. I guess this is their way of getting out of it

If I were you Lancsdave, when it is sold at auction threaten to leave, that they will not want, as it will be your track record that will help to sell the house if you have been a good tennant, try to find out what the recomended price is at auction and let me know.

Yep apparently so i see ...but it does warn of a tennacy shorthold

but godknows what that would mean, that the new vendors would have to honour the tennancy till closure then upto them afterwards - thats if it sells
