I need a lookalike Mayor circa 1909
For the Coppice celebratory event I want an actor/local person, dressed as the Mayor from 1909, to walk up the hill and recreate the handing over ceremony of 1909.
So, I need help with two parts of that
1. I need to know what the Mayor of 1909 looked like in the first place
2. I need a volunteer/actor/local person to be him in the procession
If anyone knows where I can find a pic please let me know. Thanks

Re: I need a lookalike Mayor circa 1909
The list of the previous Mayor's Of Hyndburn, and before that Accrington Gayle are on a list in the Council Chamber.
As for the photographs I,m not sure. There are photographs of ever Mayor since 1974 in the Town Hall. Before that, I think that I've seen a book with photos of former mayor's in it.
Again it will be in the Town Hall. I'll ask about Gayle.

Re: I need a lookalike Mayor circa 1909
Have found photos of previous Mayors of Haslingden. The regalia appears to be the same over a long period of time without change.
May help if you cannot find a photo of Accrington Mayor?

Re: I need a lookalike Mayor circa 1909
Just looking at the Jubilee book Gayle, there is a photograph of all the Mayors from 1878 > 1928... names them, but doesn't say who was the Mayor in 1909.. do you know ?
Have to go up Ossie in about 3/4 hour if you are around, can let you take a look.

Re: I need a lookalike Mayor circa 1909
Not much help, but the Mayor in 1908 was T.E. Higham, so depending on when the Mayor making ceremony was, he could still have been Mayor in 1909.

Sorry can't find a photograph, but if he was a Higham of Higham's mill, his great grandson sat behind me at school, and he was small and blond.

I'm too much of a ham actor I'd turn up and do either Quasimodo Or Richard the Third, I don't think the Council would appreciate me prancing around shouting, "Now is the Winter of our discontent".
How about Gandalf?

Right Garinda ... looks like T.E. Higham was Mayor twice ... he was Mayor in 1928 (as in the middle of the photo for being Jubilee Mayor), but another photo of him as Mayor looking much younger ... that's if the Higham dynasty didn't adopt the same traditional names.
Gayle can see you not on line ... but will call anyway. Oh yes .. you are now.

Re: I need a lookalike Mayor circa 1909
Well, we've got the first bit sorted. I've been sent a message from an anonymous source.
TE Higham was mayor in 1906 so the one you want is either:
T.E. Nuttall who was mayor from 9th November 1909 to 8th November 1910 or more likely.
J.C. Lupton who was mayor from 9th November 1908 to 8th November 1909.
So, it's J.C. Lupton that we want - and I've been sent a picture.
So, if anyone looks like him - the gig's yours.
